New here with a RD400

I'm checking in with a quick hello from Orange County, CA. My name's Chris and I just recently picked up a '78 RD400 from a friend of mine. This one was built by Pierre at Works Performance to run at Willow Springs and was garaged after twisting the crank. My buddy swapped in a welded crank, gave up shortly afterward and it's now in my hands... and runs like a top. My plan is to clean it up, make a few changes and get it road legal to eventually ride around town and maybe get it back to the track on occasion.

Right now I'm up against some DMV snags and I'm close to finishing up a new seat mold...

My background is in metalwork - I'm trained as a machinist and welder but I'm currently back at school, hoping to get into a mechanical engineering program in the next year. Aside from a few dirt bikes and ATCs, I had a '65 BSA A65 a few years back that I detailed and sold off. Other than that, my other current interests are diesel Volkswagens and bodysuring.

Cool bike. I'd imagine with your skillset you'll have no problems at all.
