hey guys imgoing to pickup my very first bike ever tommorrow. im super excited and i thought that DTT could help me out with some questions.

first im picking up a 1980 Honda cx 500.


first he says it bogs out past 2500-3000 rpm. idk what that means, he said it'd need a tune up and just some tlc.

second, the seats look aweful.. id really like to do something like this.. but i dont know if most people custom make their seats or if they buy them like this. but i cant find it anywhere..



and thats about all i'd want to do to it for a while. but those stock seats just look ugly

what seat are you talking about? I don't see a pic or anything.

I dont like stock seats either. I had the one on my 360 reupholstered after i made a new seat pan.

i cant figure out pictures on here but its like a sissy bar seat rest.. or even a king and queen seat. i just hate the look of the stock. how hard is it to make a seat??

Depends on your skills. I like flat seats. This one on my cb360 I used 22 guage stainless steel and welded two nuts on the end to use the existing inner fender bolts to mount it with. 18 guage would have been better to use. The front has a tab that goes into the rubber tank mount. The rest of it was done by my upholstery guy for under $100.

Third pic is off my CL175. I am using the existing seat pan and having my guy use 2" of seat foam to keep a low profile.
