New jersey DTT where u at?!

cborders, love the kz's. good shit.

jakub, man i wish. i see a couple older bikes around every-so-often, but its no one i know from the forum. I'm in toms river and would be down for organizing a meet. might be a little late in the season though. If your around the shore tomorrow there's the Cruzin Downtown car and bike show in downtown toms river. always gets a nice turn out. last time i went it was mainly hd's though.

Everybody put their pin in the member map? I'd love to ride around with a pack of custom bikes.

Noob here. I had my 76 Cb750 for about 3 months now. Any meets in the central NJ area?
Is the Chatterbox considered Central Jersey? Pardon my geography, I just moved to Jersey. If so, its a pretty good.

@ DP9 - sorry for the delay....forgot I even posted on here!

Yeah my XS500 came my way pretty much all stock in and in good shape as is. I got rid of the air box to put some K+N filters in, and put some updated grips, fork seals, mirrors on, and that's about it. The local shop on Route 18 took care of me.

It s a perfect get around to run me to work and back, but considering my considerable inexperience on the mechanical end of things, and the 30+ year old age of the bike, I haven't really taken it out for any out of town rides....although I'd love to if anyone is up for a short distance roll...

Anybody know a good mechanic in North Eastern Jersey I've called about 4 different ones in my area and none of the want to work on my bike. 1970 cb450

@harry: awesome that you live in howel. some nice scenic-ish roads out there. sorry to hear about the s83. i kid, i kid. looks like a nice cruiser. stock or modified?

@tone: i know a place in brooklyn that might work on it. otherwise i only know of one shop that will touch an old bike and its in waretown. way south jersey. whatre you looking to do to it? this site is a wealth of knowledge and the guys on here are very helpful. should be able to walk you through anything or at least point you in the right direction. the search button knows pretty much everything you would want to know. ask it first. :D

hey DP9, yeah I probably can do myself but dont have the time.

here is the list..

Rebuild the carbs,
Find a short somewhere in the electrical system (happened after I removed the light bucket to paint it).
Gotta find some gaskets or alternative for the left engine case and alternator.
Front brake has to be looked at. Was empty and need to add fluid to get it working.
bend the header at the end to get pipes to fit. gonna hit the pipes with a hammer at certain spots where the frame is to get them snugg on the bike.
Got the bike about 7 years ago and has been sitting. Ran before that though..

you know what I'm gonna start with the easy stuff and see how far I can take it....

here is what its looking like so far

whoa, that thing looks COOL!

my recommendations are to take the carbs off and have a shop throw them in an ultrasonic cleaner then you can just slap them back on and be done. I would use permatex Right Stuff for the engine case gasket. its worked great for mine. sounds like you know what to do with the pipes. that shouldnt be too hard or take too long. as for the brake, that whole system should be gone through, or at least filled and bled properly and then re-evaluated. that electrical short is gonna be a PITA. im cringing just thinking about what a shop bill would be for that. on these old bikes ive kinda given up on fixing the stock harnesses and I just rewire the whole thing soldering every joint. it takes less time over all and is way more reliable. thats probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but thats what ive found is the best way to go about it.

West Milford

Miles and miles of beautiful roads connected to miles and miles of more beautiful roads.

I'm currently sans bike, money, or garage, BUT am paving the way for the job, money and stable. I rode for years, mostly sport bikes, and now the thought of plastics makes me cringe. I'm looking for naked bikes for the wife and I for the '13 season, Monster, SV, XB, or something similar I can yank off the stock stuff and strip down to just a 7" headlight and a pair of gauges like a FZ, new CB or even a ZRX. Then comes a cafe project. I'm just here lurking for know, assembling ideas, tips and tricks.

Go South to Exit #4 then you're there.

Just finishing up a '72 CB 350 with my son should be done in 2 days more work... but since he's at college that may be another month of weekends. I only work onit with him since it's his bike and being a 40 year old machine he needs to know how to do it himself since most shops around don't have anyone on staff whose ever seen one before.
