first off, im glad to be here. everyone here seems to be a wealth of knowledge in their own way. Im aquiring a 76 yamaha xs500 at the beginning of november from a friend of mine. we built the bike in about a week and got it running, than with him on the xs, and me on my goldwing, our 20 year old bodies went from maine to niagara falls. best ride of our lives. since he kind of needs the money, and i kind of need his motorcycle to make a cafe bike out of, im going to be getting off him for 250 bucks, and he is going to ride it over to my garage to boot! i have plans for it, and want to make it into something that im proud of, as a lot of my projects turn into heaps of crap, ide like to make this one something sweet and something im going to be fully interested in.

yes, thats painters tape, it cured boredom at the campsite on the last night of the trip as we were zonked and drained from the weeks trip. best time of my life. the bike still runs, so it will be a sort of easy project. ide like to rebuild the carbs, slash cut the pipes (or get flat tracker pipes), get new inserts for my woodcraft clipons to fit the 35mm fork tubes (Had them from my ninja 250, which is a 36mm, woodcraft can get me new inserts to make it fit which is sweet!

my vision for this bike, is to put a cafe seat on it, clipons, ditch the speedo and headlight assembly completely and get a new one (mount a gps instead of a speedo), hide alot of the wires and boards, pod air filters, and slam the bike for a really low look. mikesxs.com carries some of the parts i think i will need to make this happen, and im sure you all can point me in the right direction, and maybe even give some ideas for getting this thing done!

im glad to be on board and a lot of your bikes...holy cow, amazing!

yeah its quite the deal! im very good friends with the guy thats selling it, im going to keep him involved in the build as much as possible before he goes to basic in a couple months or so. i havent seen to many xs500 cafe bikes. parts are hard as hell to find, but i think it will pay off in the end!
