Hey all,

I'm Nick, from sunny Brisbane, Australia. New to the cafe bike scene... After hearing stories of my Grandfather raising hell on ancient Velocettes, I decided I needed to take a break from building muscle cars and do a bike. Realised that years of wasting money on houses and bills and wedding rings and other junk meant I couldn't afford a proper British bike.

After lots of false starts, I ended up with a rough '71 Suzuki T500 that looked like this:

That was September 2010.

Soon, it looked like this:

Then this:

Then a bit of ambitious dry-building:

At that point it felt a long way off being finished, did I really want to get back in to bikes anyway, can't take the wife away for holidays on it, maybe it should all go on ebay, maybe I should buy another car...

Bought another car:

Was in a foul mood one night, went out to the shed and rebuilt the bike carbs as therapy, then all of a sudden:

Have done a bit over 120 miles on it now, performing flawlessly. I did all the work myself apart from the paint and trueing the wheels.

Shamefully, haven't done the ton yet. But I've been damn close!

Very cool dude, welcome to the forum! Looks like you'll be able to contribute some know how.

Nice work! ;D

Love to see what you could do when you are in a good mood. ;)

Thanks guys!!

Have realised after reading posts on this forum that every bastard in the world has a cafe'd T500, and that 98 out of 100 cafe bikes are silver and black. Originality fail!

Maybe I should pull it apart and try again?

Have been riding it heaps over the last few weeks. Rode it in to work in the city yesterday, had two guys on modern sportsbikes pull up next to me and want to chat about how different it was. Really good feeling when that happens, makes the hours in the shed feel worthwhile.

Although I did get a lot of dirty looks from people in cars who had just driven through my smoke cloud. Just the way I wanted it!

I have a rough but great running '92 DR650 sitting in the shed at the farm... T650 single?

Now the mad scientist in me comes out...
