New member building a CB500T Cafe/Brat

Hey everybody... I wanted to introduce myself, since I just posted my build over on the Cafe Racer build forum. I'm Raun. Yes, my parents stuck me with a name like that... I'm a very typical caucasian male, 33 years old, and I have to sound my name out to everybody that meets me. It's pronounced like Shawn, just with an "R" instead of a "Sh". Now that we're done with that subject... (Thank God!)

I was raised in a shop, since my dad was an auto mechanic, and I did mechanic work until I was 20. I hated getting greasy, and really didn't care for repairing other people's old junk that much, so I pursued my interest at the time, which was IT. I went to college, and ended up doing IT work in the banking industry. I currently serve as an IT manager for a financial holding company that owns several banks in GA. That being said, I like to get away from computers in the evening, and I like to have projects.

I've wanted to build an old bike up for awhile, so when I lucked across a couple good finds this past winter, I snatched them up and got started building the CB500T as quickly as possible! I also have a CB400 that I hope to build next. I'm afraid this is going to become a habit for me. :p ;)

I have a wife and 3 kids, so I don't get to be quite as fully dedicated to these builds as I might like to be. But family comes first... :) And I pour myself into my build on the weekend and some evenings. Anyway, I look forward to posting and making some new friends in the DTT world.

Welcome! You picked a good starting point (I'm a bit biased). The 450/500T engines are interesting in a geeky mechanic kind of way. Torsion bars!

Do you live in or near GA? If so you should start making plans to go to the Barber Vintage Festival in Birmingham in Oct. Look for the "Mama Tried" thread.

Thanks for the welcome, Flugtechnik! I do live in Georgia, just south of Atlanta. I'm heading over to the "Mama Tried" thread to check that out right now. I'd love to get over there and meet some other people and bikes. :)

And torsion bars does seem like a seriously geeky approach on an engine. I loved ripping that engine down and rebuilding it. Lots of neat stuff there.

Cool, I used to live in Roswell, but I moved up to Greenville, SC.

Here is the thread: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=61081.0

But you can look at the previous years threads to get an idea of the shenanigans. It is the biggest motorcycle festival in the region and probably the biggest congregation of DTTers each year.
