Hey everyone, names Justin. I'm in Arvada, CO, and am in the process of building my first bike ever, and learning tons along the way.
I picked up a running 76 KZ750 Twin off craigslist for 800 with no title. It also came with a titled 78 frame, a titled hardtail bobber frame, a 2nd engine, a spare cluster, set of bars, and some other small bits and pieces. Rather then swap everything to the titled frame, I decided to jump through all the DMV hoops to get the runner titled, and got my plates last week.
Anyway, heres how she looked the day I picked her up.
First things first, I got a set of drag bars, and got to work on a seat. I attempted to make a cowl style seat using the fiberglass pan off the touring seat that was on it (having no experience with anything this sort)
I hated the way the seat turned out, but figured it would do for the time being. I then cut off the rear portion of the frame, made up a tail/license mount, shoved all the electrical up under the seat/tank, and did some detabbing.
None of the gauges worked, so I just pulled the whole block off and remounted just the ignition switch where it was. My fiance also surprised me with a seat from cafeseat.com for my birthday. I fabbed up a tray under the seat to hold the electrical bits, and mounted up the seat. This is how it looks today. The pan is off getting upholstered
This is my tray:
and here is it waiting for the upholstery pan
