Hey guys,

A buddy of mine sent me a link to the site and I've been browsing through the site for last 3 hours! Great site - so I had to join right away.

I'm currently wanting to an 82' GPz 750 into a cafe racer, and have been checking out resources and getting inspiration from as many pictures as I can. I gotta work with what I got - so while I like the "pure" styling of the spoked wheels and such - I'm gonna have to make do with what I got!

Current stable includes: 89' Kawasaki ZX-10, 95 CBR600F3, and 2 82' GPz750's... One GPz is completely dissassembled project bike, the second a cosmetically damaged bike with only 9000 km on the clock. Plan is to return the damaged bike to stock, and the project is gonna be a cafe racer... I've collected some interesting parts from a couple other bikes (T500 and a T-hawk 400) so we'll see what I can come up with...

The only things I think I need so far are a cool set of bars as I don't want to do clip ons, and some nice rubber to run on the bikes. Used to be Avon's were the tires to get for old bikes - anyone have better suggestions for tires?

Thanks!

Rabin

Hey, Welcome to the site...
Hows the weather out there??.. LOL.. I heard that you guys got -60 degrees last week!!..
Well lets see the bikes.

If you are looking for some bars, you should check out the adjustable Raask clubmans that I posted up on the ebay section of the board...

Cheers

Thanks man!

Yep - it was FREAKING cold here - but I figure all our stuff gets cryo treated so it lasts longer... :) I've got a heated garage - but it's not insulated so it's only good to work on if it's -15 or warmer. I keep procrastinating all summer to insulate it - then I kick myself when it gets cold...

Thanks for the tip on the bars - they look cool! I've never seen them like that either... Still not sure if they'll work with my "vision" - was hoping for black powder coat. There's a "package" deal I saw in the sale section - but I only need the bars so I sent a PM just in case he wants to separate it out.

I'll see if I can dig up pics of the bikes... They're all getting fixed up to some extent at this point so there's nothing to take pics of now... The ZX and the CBR are getting fairing repairs and repaints, the damaged GPz is just as I bought it from insurance, and the other GPz is just a frame at this point with the other bits in boxes...

I only have a 16x24 garage and it's packed with countless Peugeot parts, engines, trannies, and a 76' 504 Peugeot along with the 2 GPz's and the ZX. I couldn't fit the CBR in just yet so it's in my buddies garage... :) Once the weather smartens up I'll take some build pics to post up of my progress.

Welcome.

Good of you to keep the Kawis at home, and the Honda away. You got your priorities right. 8)

It's true. Hondas are so common that really, whats the use in trying to keep it as safe as possible? I know you would treat a Yammie the same as a Kawi. I would. Such classy bikes need an extra special measure of care. ;D

You know I'm just trying to get you goat Noel ;D

Hey hey!! I love your Kawi project!! Can't wait for the photos!

My family and I lived in Sask. for 6 years back in the 90's! We lived just outside Moose Jaw. While we were there, we drove all over the province (hockey and vacations) and we LOVED it all! It DOES get a little chilly in the winter though!! One of my sons is married and living in Weyburn, so you can see Sask. is near and dear to me!!

Where in Sask. are you?

I'm living in Regina (rhrymes with fun), and am currently on 6 mo pat leave looking after my 8 mo little girl. It's AWESOME! Also gives me some time to research and check out what I want to do with my bikes. It's too cold to actually get into the garage to work on them, but I still have parts coming and stuff for them so I'm not in a hurry just yet.

I'm still trying to figure out if I should do clubman bars, daytona bars or superbike bars on the GPz, and the CBR is a project for the wife's first bike. If all goes well she'll enjoy riding as much as me! If not it'll likely just get sold and we'll get her something else. If I could have found an old CB400 or something I would have been all over it - but I got a smoking deal on the CBR so we'll try that.

So - if you're ever up in the summer you'll have to let me know and we can meet up for a ride!

I got stuck in Melville one time on a train from Winnipeg to Edmonton. It was 2AM and the parking lot for the curling rink was jam packed. Dead of winter too. The tracks were too icy for the train - it couldn't get moving.
