Too fast to live. Too young to die.
So, I figured I'd introduce myself now, and then maybe I'll be able to get some help finding the perfect bike.

I just recently moved back to Austin Texas from Pittsburgh, PA (lived there for 9 years). I've wanted a bike for a long long time, but never thought that Pittsburgh was the place to own one. I mean, if a car can't survive there, how can a motorcycle? Plus, I didn't have a garage. Now that I'm back I've been prowling for a bike like crazy, and I think I've settle on a Honda cb550 as the kind of bike I'd like to get (though I have considered the Yamaha rd350 as well, though have been warned that they're a little bit more temperamental than the hondas).

I've looked at a few around town in Austin, and am planning on looking at a few more this week. I'm trying to have something I'm happy with within the month, but I'm not going to buy until I find the right bike. I've got my Motorcycle Safety and Training Course Time Scheduled for two weeks from now - you have to take this class in the State of Texas to get the "M" on you license. Anyways, I'm super excited, and am glad to soon be a true member of this forum.

If anyone is near Austin and has a 550, or has any other suggestions of a great first bike, let me know. Thanks for your time.

There is a cb450 up here in Dallas for $800 on CL that I would buy it I needed it. A nice daily runner.

I had my eye on that one as well but I have too many projects.

It has a problem slipping out of gear, though.

Anyway, welcome!

So, it's official. As of last night I'm the owner of a 1973 Yamaha RD350.

I should be picking it up tomorrow if all goes well with my fund transfers from Pittsburgh->Austin. I'm super stoked. It's such a beautiful bike, and going to be a blast to ride. I can't wait.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get a chance. The pictures I have are from an iPhone in florescent lighting, so they don't really do the bike justice.

Good call on the rd, hondas are heavy, slow and fucking played out

Thanks guys. I officially finished my motorcycle safety/training course for the state of Texas today. Tomorrow, I'll go and take my test at the DPS and get my new license with the "M" on it. I rode my RD quite a bit today. It was a blast. Can't wait to take it for a real ride though.
