I just started this xs650. Its part 79/frame and 83 heritage special motor. The motor ran like a clock with 12K original. Just gonna freshen gaskets, spin on filter, seals, paint etc. Mac 2-1 header with rossier exhaust,K+N, Mikuni VM34. dual disc front, drilled/faced rotors, GSXR750 rear set which BTW feels damn good and was an easy retro. Roc city headlight bucket and seat, clip ons....and a bunch of other ebay goodies! I have been busy mounting the triumph Daytona mono on the rear. I got it jigged and tacked up. Cut off about 20 pounds of Shit......and still whackin! I will keep posting pics as I go. I have done bobbers before, this is my first cafe. I am really getting into this. I am excited for the finish product!!! Thanks to your site, I feel like I can get some good info and feedback!!

For your first cafe you are off to a good start and I can't wait to see where you go with it

Which spin-on oil filter kit are you going to use? From 650Central? I'm thinking of using one myself on the 650 engine I'm building currently.

Where in NM are you? I spent a few months down in Window Rock AZ back in 1992 and did a number of road trips into NM and then drove across the state on my way back up North. Amazing place.

Thanks guys. yeah las cruces here. I am using the 650 central spin on. We will see how it works. Its a pretty nice piece functional and looks good. The Mac will be nice. I am actually in the shop jiggin it up with the exhaust and crap now. Pics to follow. spent my am on my new rd250 cafe i just bought fresh from the barn. had wiring issues, but after some head scratchin i got her to purr....smokers arre pretty cool.

Slow progress, but still movin forward. Mig took a shit about a week ago............just got it back from the shop. Back at it again. More pics to follow...should have some good progress this week.

Progress on the XS build still movin forward. I did a few "one steps up and two step back", but i am getting there. all of the nasty shit (grinding, most painting, cleaning, blasting) is pretty much done. I am at the fun part where i am just bolting on parts......thank god I am done buying cuz im out of $$!! I am looking forward to getting on the road. I will post more pics over the next few weeks as i progress. Unfortunately my wife and life are dictating my lack of shop time or i would have it done in about a week or so. I am thinking about 5" yamaha tuning fork decals on the tank after I paint.................any thoughts????

I thought I suggested in a post that your rear suspension is going to flex like crazy and collapse......I must have forgotten to press the "post" button,I guess.....
Swivel, you must have forgot to push the "post" button. I dont seem to have any problems with the rear suspension. I have the spring cranked down pretty hard to stiffen it, but it "seems" to feel pretty good, less the motor etc. The geometry seems to be working well, no binding or collapse. I hope your theory is incorrect when the tires hit the road..................if not ........hackin up the rear end is gonna suck!

Looks like you lowered the front.... how did you go about this? any pointers, im considering lowering my forks also?

BTW... NICE WORK SO FAR!

The bike is ready for the motor....the motor is ready for the bike. More pictures to follow

Nice very nice. My all time favorite bike. Love those XS750 fuel tanks. I've used them on Xs650's, Virago's and even a Honda CB650.
