New Ohio SR500 Cafe build! (Pic Heavy, like you like them!)

interesting build I will be watching this one. I like the look of the seat encased by the rear frame hoop. well done. Looks Tits, and Factory.

Yeah I obviously do not have the rear brake hanger on so the there is about an inch of space to take up in that axle! I should have centered that thing up for the pic!

I really like the fit of that seat - great job, going to be a sweet cafe!. where did you buy the seat?? -MBS

We have two local racers here in town that have a huge seat collection. That was an original one off seat from the late 70's. The only reason they sold it to me is because I promised that I would make a mold of it and make them a couple. Hopefully I will order the things needed to make the mold tomorrow and have it done by next week or so.

I would think that as long as you take your time witht he bends you should be fine. I pack mine with fine sand to prevent kinking of the tubes!

Here are some pics of the mornings work. I want to use the stock guages for functionality purposes. I like the idea of having all the stock indicator lights on the guages. I have several different lights to try out. I plan on either a very small fender or a nice little fork brace to wrap up over the tire. The stance will be so much better after the new rear shocks get here!

You could relocate the shock mounts too if you don't want to get new shocks. Great job, keep the updates comming

You might want to move those 2 plastic gas container and the drain pan under your welding bench. That's a disaster waiting to happen. KABOOOOOM!!

Holy moly! I was all excited to see that the inspiration for me to even build this bike was looking at my thread! I love the Benjies bikes and trust me, as soon as I find a nice CB550 you will be hearing from me for a tank, seat and headlight!

OK.... So I got the new shocks test fitted. The biggest reason I wanted to go high in the rear is that it was sagging with the stock shock on it, pretty badly when I sat on it. I wanted to go for that high rear end, low front end racer style look and maintain the functionality of the suspension. With the new shocks it sure raised the rear end up quite a bit and actually made the bike much more comfortable to sit on with my long legs. Not sure if it is too tall or not but here are some pics. If needed I could always get these same shocks in an in between length.... The pics with the center stand down have teh back end raised about 1/2 - 3/4 inch more then sitting on the wheels.

The new shocks....

Nice jobe, love the loop and seat combo and the new shocks look pretty good too!

I really want that raised rear end look with my build too. Does it seem like your chain will clear everything ok with the new shocks?

Hopefully with the angle change I don't run into a problem with the chain hitting the swingarm on the upper side. If I do I will make a gear type of chain roller to raise it up and over the swingarm then back to the sprocket. Keep your fingers crossed.

OK, here is the morning's efforts so far. I wanted to tuck all the electronics up under the seat. The turn signal flasher and a canceling unit were already under there so I needed a spot for the regulator/rectifier and the CDI unit. Eventually the battery eliminating capacitor will be under there also. First step was to remove all the unwanted tabs from the area. I then made a bracket to run across the frame out of 1/8 X 1 inch flat stock. Test fit it all and drilled some holes with the press and then welded it all in. Of course in the pics the wires are still just hanging lose but they will be all cleaned up in the end and hidden nicely under the seat.

Bike is now up and running. Early next week I am going to be building an exhaust for it that tucks directly under the frame with a 45 degree turnout before the tire. I put a dual disk set up on the bike also and now I need to source a nice master cylinder to use. Hopefully I will be riding it in raw fashion next week then tear it down next month to clean everything up for paint and powdercaot and do all the little things that I want to do to it.

hey man,
this project looks awesome,
really like the way it is going, i was going to ask if you were thinking on dropping the frt end. but with the new rear springs
there is no need to ask, like the lines of the bike thus far.
good work, can't wait to see the end product.
later.

My darn build pics should be back up this weekend!

OK! Great morning so far. Got the rear brakes set up early this morning. Got the exhaust on and secured. New chain on. Chain tensioners blasted to clean them up and replaced. All nuts and bolts checked.... Started her up and rode the crap out of it! Runs great! Tons of torque and power. The thing is a rocket for sure. I made 3 passes at about 75 mph then got the camera out. If you notice in the video I come out of the drive from the shop and there is a sheriff about 300 yars away stopped at the corner.... staring at me. I just pulled into my main drive nice and slow. Let things die down just a bit and I will get a good "At speed" clip for you all. Hopefully I will get the headlight later today or tomorrow. The rest of the day will most likely be getting ready to install the rear lights so I can ride it legally without problems. Then it's a road trip to the barn so you all better be ready to grab some breakfast!
