New Project

Shortround

Coast to Coast
My 750 is build is coming to an end. So i did the only thing one can do in this situation besides ride the snot out of it. I bought 1972 CL350 on saturday. I paid $80 for it. Its all there. I'll post up some pics when i get home. ;D

i've desided to give the 350 to my neighbor jim. jim has 5 kids and one of those upside down mortgages. jim also works for disney, which means he makes less than i do, which is pretty pathetic because i'm a teacher. my buddy mark and i have desided to try and pull our resources together and build a cafe for jim. he's watched me build three in the last year and he really wants one but he knows where his obligations are. does anyone need any parts to a 1972 cl350? seat pan, grommets, airfilter boxes, rear fender, grab bar, muffller covers, side covers, etc. stuff i'm gonna remove and not use. gonna sell the stuff real cheap. just trying to raise some capital for a gasket kit ($30) i'm gonna pressure wash it and pull the motor tonight.
rocketcitycafe offered to supply a fiberglass seat pan for the build. i thought that was really noble of him. so it would be cool to throw some biz his way if you get the chance. he makes some really nice parts and the price and quality can't be beat. you won't have to spend 4 hours filling and sanding pin-holes in the galss before painting like airtech glass.

Very nice find Shortround. Also, I must say that its great to hear what your going to do for your neighbor, very nice gesture. Does he know about it?

Keep us updated on the progress.

helluva grand gesture. well done.
nice to know there's still good people out there.
maybe some of us can throw some parts your way to help things along if need be.

good luck and keep us all updated if/when you can.

hey shortround, i have a drag bar that im getting rid of, (hooking up those tarozzis!) you can have that if you want. (slight downwards bend dragbar) just give me a few bucks for shipping. btw, that is really nice of you to build a bike for your buddy.

That's pretty cool that you're helping out your neighbour, especially with all the crap that happening economically nowadays. Post what you need and we'll try to hook you up.

i want to take time to thank everyone for their support. many of you guys on the site have offered parts and services for the build, and i wanted you to know it is greatly appriciated. mark and i started tearing it down last night. there are a couple of things i know we're gonna need.
1. a set of coils, the bike didn't come with any. doesn't matter what the wires look like i have a set to replace them.
2. front and rear sproket (530). the ones on the bike are done.

Hey man, if you ever need any help with it, I'm relatively local, and know a thing or two about that mill. Just let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Seat and tank look great!!!! Well done! Beautiful!

I don't know if you've seen my tank build thread http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=6339.0 , but I know how much work goes into a project like this. Keep up the good work and keep the updates coming.

Are you still planning on giving the bike to your neighbor? If so, he's a very lucky guy. Very cool of you.

BTW, I loved Trixie too! My son and I are big Speed Racer fans. I'll attach a PDF of a guage face design I made with a SR theme. They're for a CB450, but if you're interested in using them, I could mod them for your bike.

i was tinking of using that same design (background of the poster) on my gauges, but it was going to be the only yellow on the bike. i saw your thread. did you have any problem with your foam coming unglued at the seams? the bike is still for my neighbor. i hope to have it finished by the 27th so he can ride it to daytona.

Dang dude, that's awesome - your neighbor is going to go absolutely bananas. That seat and tank look incredible paired together.

So with the seat, you took that layered polystyrene (is that the right name for that product?) and just carved it out and then glassed over that?

i usually put making tape over the foam and then brush on some pva. that way i can usually get about 2 seats from the mold. i can make a negatine mold, but every bike i've bulit i want to try something a little different. a 4x8 foot sheet of polystyrene is $10. i made the seat and tank out of one sheet.
