New ride to the stable

Been Around the Block
Hey DTT'ers,

I've added a budget bike to the stable for something I can ride this season with my wife. I found this 1978 CB400 Hawk with 8500 miles on the clock on CL. They guy (shout out to Donnie) that was selling it had to since his wife put her foot down about riding motorcycles. So, he was in the process of tuning it up when he put up for sale. She runs, no leaks or smoke, new battery, master cylinder rebuilt, carbs rebuilt, solenoid replaced, new air filter and plugs. The only downside is a tick in the top end that I'll need to investigate and tuning of the carbs as she bogs out sometimes when throttled too fast (same problem my wife's Rebel had that was a simple main needle adjustment). So, I"ll be putting new skins on it as well and replacing a few cosmetic parts here and there. The cool thing is, is this bike is the same make, model, year and color as the one my dad had in 1978 that I grew up riding with him on! My mom sold it before I went to college to make a few bucks. I couldn't pass this up when I saw it!

I'll keep you posted with fixes, updates, etc..as I go forward.

Here is the original bike my dad had before my mom sold it.

Love it!
My Dad had a '78 CB400A just like that in blue, even had the same Windjammer.

Very cool indeed! My brother had one just like that in college about 8 years ago and he sold it for 400 bucks just before graduating. I really missed out on a good one then. Said he had no idea I wanted it.
