New Rider from Michigan

I've been trolling around on DTT for a few months now and thought I would join and share my project.
My first bike (last year) was a 1980 cb750k that I was turning into a cafe bike, chapped the rear tail up a bit, clubman bars, mirrors, all black... Then it stopped running. I sold it and bought my current bike off a friend for cheap.
It's a 1998 cbr600 F3 it had been laid down so I have no guilt about tearing it apart.
My thought was, instead of staring with a old Honda, and putting all modern suspension on it, I will start with a modern bike and give it the old school, made it in my driveway, rattyness. Pics will do the talking from here.

When I got it

One of my favorite pics from a ride with my buddy erick, who is on here already.

Then I mocked up a light cover

Just used some sheet steel I had laying around (left over from wide body'ing my subaru) and shaped it on my knee, and lots of grinding

This is how it sits today.

I usually don't like streetfighters, I love cafe bikes, I like the DIY dirty look. I
May just stick with the all bare metal look, might paint it to match one of my cars. I'm
Undecided. The next step is the tail section and seat. I already have a brake light I will use, just need to start making a new seat. Probably start that this week.

Thanks for looking
Scott

Welcome aboard! Whereabouts in Michigan are you? Wish you could have salvaged the 750, but the new bike is coming along nicely.

White Lake.
I wish I could find some pictures of the 750, it was in good shape. I sold it to a kid from Travers City, I think he will continue the project.

Ps, I have a friend rolling me a front fender on the English wheel, I can't wait to see how it turns out on this cbr.

Nice, I've been on the lookout for a rear fender forever. Good thing you have a friend that knows metal. I'm in Lake Orion, give me a hollar if you need a hand. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I'm good for picking things up and putting them down again.

Welcome to the forum! That headlight cover looks amazing on there. I met Erick a few weeks back, super nice guy. I hope to be riding with you guys soon, my bikes are getting there. Slowly but surely. See ya around !

Oh great, Scotts on DOT. Welcome to the site man! There is a ton of inspiration on here to make you work days go by so fast! I forgot to ask if you noticed a difference with the aerodynamics of the bike with the new windscreen? I like how it turned out, very unique for a 98 CBR. Cant wait to ride again man! Make a project thread!
