New rider looking for a ride near Cincinnati

JPanichella

Been Around the Block
Well, I'll give you guys a quick rundown. I'm a college student at the University of Cincinnati, studying Industrial Design (product design more or less). Well, being surrounded by other industrial designers who are in the transportation (auto and cycle design) track, I kind of got this motorcycle bug. I slowly fed it with working on a few vintage Schwinns (I have a really neat '62 Corvette) and motorizing some bikes for friends. Now I'm ready to move up. I'm ready to get a motorcycle, customize it....and ultimately caffeinate it. I'm pretty set on anything in the Honda CB series, but I want SOHC (mostly because of the big community over at the SOHC forums. I'm fairly mechanical, but I didn't grow up with greasemonkey parents or greasemonkey friends, so this is pretty much a whole new world to me. I'm having a hard time finding anything local, though. I don't have a ton of money to work with, but I am looking for something that runs and is in cosmetic shambles (so I can afford it). I'm hoping for a 550 or 750 (or 650, but more inclined towards the others).

I figure some of you Ohio guys might be able to help me out. If you have an extra ride or one too many projects on your hands, shoot me an e-mail and we can talk. My email address is jonpanichella@gmail.com

And for your amusement, here's our motorized bikes!

Quaker Steak and Lube? I'm originally from Pittsburgh and we used to go there for wings. I didn't know there was one down here. And if you find any good leads I would love to hear from you. I'm getting kind of desperate.

Welcome to DTT. I have a bike up north here in Cleveland if you're interested. Here is the listing: http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=2128.msg16042#msg16042

I rode it today. It fired right up after sitting since last fall (October of 2007). I had it on a battery tender. It runs like a champ. I absolutely love this bike but I need the room, cash, etc for my other bikes. Let me know if you're interested.

I go to UC, so I live in Clifton right now. I was really looking to get my hands on a Honda CB550 or CB750. I found an '81 for around 500, but don't know if I want to do a DOHC or not.

It's gorgeous, but unfortunately way out of my sub-1000 price range. I was looking for something in need of a little more TLC. It's a beautiful machine though.

Ive got a smallish Kaw (440) and a smallish yamaha (XS400) id be willing to let go of pretty cheap. Both need *some* work, simple stuff, i just havent gotten round to messing with either of them much. They both start, they both run (Kaw has an electrical problem, Yammie needs a lil more work) and im in Dayton, which is bout 45 mins north. No, they arent Hondas, but you're getting to the point in the year where you'll be hard pressed to find anything in decent shape for under a grand...

check out cragslist i found some good buys (if i just had more room i would snatch them up)
in the cincinnati part .

I really appreciate the offer, but I am going to make this my main project. I feel like if I got a bike that wasn't the kind that I had my heart set on I'd kick myself for it. Thank you, though.

keep checking CraigsList. I look at it almost daily out of habit. There are definitely bikes out there. Good luck and keep us posted!

I have my eyes on a CB650 that's local and cheap. Also, I talked to a guy on the phone who has a few CB750s and a few CB500s in storage. I'm visiting him this weekend. I'll keep you guys on the up and up.

Well guys. I never got my hands on a bike. I'm still in the market. I want a cb750. Any Ohio riders with a beat CB750 they want out of their hair?

I saw a guy on craigslist in cleveland that was selling 2 cb750K's for like 1,300 both ran and looked pretty good. i think the one needed a gasket. Last i talked to him he was thinking about parting them out. i would try to catch him before he did that. his name is Harold. He's a nice guy i talked to him before. but i didnt have the money....then i traded my 350 for a 750. actually the 750 thats on this page.
