I just got done assembling my kz650 finishing a seat and cowl upgrade. Only thing is I went with a saddle and a fender instead. Started out wanting to go straight up cafe seat, but got other ideas half way through. Did the paint job with rattle cans following tWistedWheelz rattle can bling tutorials. Though I'm certain I was still sloppier than his methodology condones, it came out fine for me. Had new wheels, muffler and front brake assembly, but as with old parts not everything worked out. That's for another post, here's my seat - tell me what you think -
I agree the integration could be better - if it were a bobber I think the seat would look more natural cos it would drop with the frame and fit the tank better. I originally set it up so the front was low and flush with the seat pan. Though once I sat on it all I did was slide forward, so I had to raise the front so it sat better. That's how it is on a horse, just cos of the huge pommel you don't notice it as much. Also all that leather smushes down quite a bit when I sit on it.
I'm happy with it. I'd rather have a ride with that messy abortion on it than a cookie cutter cafe seat.
It's not too bad a thrashing. After all - it's the internet, if I took it seriously I'd need professional help. And I think everyone of my friends did a face palm when they first saw it, though most of them like it now. It's different, I expect people to not like it.
This setup looks better for the lines of the tank and fender, but sat me way too far forward. I sat on it once, pretty much right on top of my balls and slid into the tank and was like "No that's not working". After angling it back I was sitting on my ass like you're suppose to on a saddle. The whole section that's in front with the layered pieces of leather don't have any support holding them up. They smush underneath me and act as padding. It looks better with them pushed down, but they won't stay that way.
The chopper seat with the 6 shooter is awesome, I would worry my gun would get stolen. I originally just wanted to steal the leather off a saddle for a more traditional seat, but I found these online and decided to try throwing it on there -
Thats one wild seat. The paint came out really nice from what i can tell. I like the green/white combo. But the thing that gets me is that rear fender. Geez that thing is huge. It's like an old tin stove that someone cut in 1/3's and bolted onto your rear. I think the bike would like a lot better with out it. even with the shiney new paint.
Def curious too see how you progress in working on your bike. Def has charecter!
