New speedo and Tacho wiring

wab

Been Around the Block
Hi I have purchased a new speedo and tacho set up. Being an absolute electrical novice my question is this...
On the clocks there are two wires for the internal lighting, one red and one black.

Assuming red is live and black ground/earth where can I connect these to enable the lighting? Here is a pic of the plug which fits the bulb holder in the headlight, can I connect into this? If so which colour wire is live and which is earth?

Also in the right of the picture is the sidelight bulb which has a green and a brown wire, can I use this? Again which colour would be live or earth? Is brown the live?
Any help is much appreciated. :)

I don't think it should be going to clips. Where are the wires from your old clocks? I just cut and connected my new ones (dunno if I did it "correctly" but it works).

Is your bike a Honda?

If so, running power from brown wire will have the gauges light up whenever your key is on. White wire for when the headlight is on. If you bike has an always-on headlight, better to go through the brown wire.

So brown to red and then black to green (or ground).

Sorry Sonreir, yes my bike is a Honda.
Just to clarify is it ok to connect to the white wire on the clip(so they only light up when the lights come on) for live and the green sidelight wire for ground?
Thanks again.

Any green wire is acceptable for ground. You can probably go with the white wire for your gauges' red wire, but I suggested the brown because it generally pulls less current than the white wire would.
