Some of you will 'know' my Beemer, it has been BOTM here. To refresh your memory:
Love(d) the way it looks in that photo, but the tank was giving me some problems. It started to bloat, pretty sure the material was taking up some of the gas, so I gave it a Tank Cure treatment. It didn't help. So I gave it a second Tank Cure treatment and all went horribly wrong. The Tank Cure started dissolving in the fuel, despite of all the care I took in applying it and not using modern fuels. The pieces of Tank Cure clogged up my fuel lines and I couldn't ride the bike anymore. The bike sat in my shed for months and months while I was looking for a solution, but I just couldn't find one, so I decided to buy a tank for temporary use.
It's a stock BMW tank with some really nice patina. I like how it looks, but I'll keep looking for a permanent solution:
But somehow the exhaust, which I made out of a thermos, seemed wrong. I wanted a more classic looking exhaust. So I bought an ashtray and used an old, rusty muffler to make this: (not completely finished yet)
(the end piece is the ashtray). I like the looks better than the old exhaust and it sounds right too.
