Been Around the Block
Hello! I have an ongoing build thread going over at the xs650.com forums, but I'm trying to diversify! This is my first bike, and my first build...

_DSC7741.jpg

I bought it in the summer of 2010 as a low-milage, 90%-stock 1974 TX650. The bulk of the work was done by myself through last winter. The build moved in several different directions before getting settled into a fairly cafe-esque groove! Plenty or research, learning, and experimentation so far... and this winter is bringing in several changes, refinements, and further experimentation!

The basic build-sheet so far:

Stock '74 TX650 frame w/ modified TX750 swingarm and custom aluminium rear section
FZR 600 fork legs w/Race Tech springs & valves
TT500 triple clamps
FZR600 front brakes
RSV4 hydraulic clutch
RSV4 master cylinders/levers
Ducati rear brake
ZX6R rear monoshock
Torozzi clip-ons and rearsets on custom hangers
Aermacchi tank
Modified Airtech CR7501 fairing
Basic engine mods - Gordon Scott 2-1 exhaust, Hugh's PMA, PAMCO ignition. Mikuni VM34 carbs
Tons of other little things that seem simple but are endlessly frustrating... if you know what I mean, you know what I mean!

Anyways, I'm looking forward to being part of the DTT forum, learning more and more, and keeping on with my build!

I started on DTT then went over to XSForum when i started the first 650 build..
Glad to see you on this side!

Still number one XS cafe.

Welcome! I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see more detail on the monoshock setup. Nice work on the fairing, too!

Thanks for the kind welcome. The monoshock is fairly straight-forward in design; I stuck as closely as possible to the stock ZX6R geometry as possible. The real hassle was the tight packaging (especially with the large wheel), keeping it from looking to modern (no square-section alloy swingarm, etc.), and fiddly fabrication. It's not super-easy to describe, but maybe these shots will explain it...

Sweet bike. I noticed what looks like a removable subframe too.

Thanks. The subframe is 6061-T6, 1" Od, .870" Id, .065" Wall. Weighs under 2 lbs (the upholstered seat is by far the heaviest part of the whole assembly!). It's totally bolt on/off, which was mainly to facilitate attaching aluminum to steel. Every tube except the left upright is full of wiring, so it's not much of a quick-change feature. :)

Welcome to DTT sir ! Good looking bike and really likin the fairing. If I may think a lil flatter and longer tank would go well with it ! :) what are your plans from this point in the build ?

This winter's plans are for general refinement and tuning. Currently I'm building up a new tank and rear wheel.
