i picked up a 75 cb750 i am planning to make a cafe racer out of and i was wondering if i could bolt up some cbr forks to her or its completley impossible(like i said im new :-\ ) and some good sites for parts would be helpful

HMmmm.... Best advice i could give is try using the search (on here and a general google search). There is a thread titled "Jap bike bible" that has a lot of stem, bearing, fork sizes, etc but the forks also need to be close to the same length as well.

What kind of parts exactly? There's Dime City Cycles for damn near everything, RocCitycafe for sweet glass and alloy parts, flying Squirrel if you are in Canada, etc

It's been said a thousand times, but I'll repeat it. The best place to start is to get teh bike running as well as possible and learn to ride it and maintain it and as you live with it, the changes you want to make will start to become clearer - a vision will start to form.

But start by riding it.

Ya, swapping out the forks for a modern set can be a real hassle. Get the bike running first... go from there.

Not my purpose to discourage newbs but I always do the eye roll when I read these. "Hey, I have no mechanical experience but I want to to a major modification on an old motorcycle that can drastically affect performance and safety. It would be so frickin' cool!"

this should be stickied at the top of every page.

obviously thats why im posting isnt it? to find out opinions and get ideas from what other people do or have done or tried...isnt that the point of forums...why waste your time posting negative comments

Yes, you can install most any front end onto most any frame, with enough machine shop access, welding experience etc. Anything is possible. It won't be a straight bolt-on though.

Chances are your best bet would be to take the stem from the stock triple tree and get it into the CBR trees. If I'm right that's how lots of modern front-ends are fitted to older bike frames.

I know a couple of guys who have inverted front ends on their XS650's. There will be lots of advice out there, but you're not likely to find someone who has done exactly what you're contemplating.

To really sort it out you'll need at least the triple tree setup from the new front end, the stock one and the bike frame. A combination of steering stem swapping / bearing changes / machining and welding would make it work.

How does the bike run etc. now? I like the idea of a modern front end, and don't let any nay-sayers stop you. But it is a bolt-on type of thing that doesn't really impact what you do with the rest of the bike, so don't let it slow you down.

But 100% if you have an overall vision for your bike and it includes a CBR front end, go for it.

You asked for opinions, I gave you one. How about just fixing up the bike first so it runs well, that should be your first priority. Yeah an old CB750 may be cool with a CBR front end but you know what else is really cool? An old bike that runs regularly and reliably.

i have access to a full machine shop and know some pretty good welders, im going to do some more research and let you know what i come up with

Good luck man. Its really not that difficult. Theres a cb350 on here with a cbr front end. Unfortunatly I cant remember the builders name... Ill see if I can find it. Anyway... All anyones saying is that its an expensive proposition and our OPINION is that if your bike isnt up to par, why upgrade the front end? Yes it does look cool, but if you have a bike that doesnt run reliably, what does that matter? I hope ya go through with it, I just dont want you to spend a ton of money on a mod that ends up being worthless because the motor is shot or something along those lines.

And the "people who were actually helpful" line was a bit much... Just saying. Weve all seen a bunch of folks here start builds and get fed up, frustrated, or in too deep. Just trying to make sure that doesnt happen to you. Aparently thats not helpful? Anyhow, good luck.

I believe it's djelliot with the cbr front end. Right?

Either way, IMO the best thing to do is to get the front end ready as possible for a swap, but don't modify your current forks / triples / frame / etc until you KNOW it will slide in and bolt up. You'll end up with some extra parts and all but if something goes wrong you'll still have the original front end.

Better safe than sorry.

thanks everyone, but just so everyone knows the motor is in the process of a complete overhaul and rebuild (and dont worry it's getting built right), and i am very meticulous when it comes to my projects i just have never built a bike before, in any regard i am more than excited for this build and i hope to get more ideas and help from the people on this forum..thanks again
