New wheels for a cb100

Hello everyone,

I just recently picked up a 73 cb100 and have been trying to get it up to par. When I got the bike it was in pretty bad shape. The tank was completely rusted inside, all the plastic and rubber was shot, and the motor was seased. Iv scene rebuilt the motor and got it going with the help of a friend and I'm currently repainting the frame.
My question is about tires. Iv tried looking this up and have looked at several conversion charts but mi still confused. My bike has a 2.50-18” front tire, and a 3.00-17” back. Now I may be just not looking hard enough but for the life of me I can't find a set of matching front and back tires in those sizes. I did run into some IRC rs310 tires but the back tire has me worried, its a 110/90. Will this fit my bike?

And if not, what is my alternatives? Am I stuck using a universal front/back moped tire? And if that’s the case, will it matter that I have a 90/90/18 front and a 90/90/17 rear?

Unfortunately as you can see, I'm totally new to the subject of motorcycle tires and it doesn’t help that I have some very small tires lol. Any advice would be great! thanks

Humm, so after looking at my bike this is what I found. The front tire is 140 x18 and the back is 160a x17. I’m not sure what the A is for lol.

But now looking on Dennis kirk and other sites I’m even more confused, it seem that my choice of tires is limited to universal front/back moped tires and miss matched tires from different sets. Is it ok to have a 90/90/18 front and a 90/90/17 universal tires? I would think I would look a little dorky and might throw the bike off, I don't know.

As for the sets, I can find back tires that fits from one set and a fronts that fits from another. Can you do that? Or is the tread/tire difference going to kill me as I’m driving down the road?

Actually, you have a 1.4"*18" front and 1.6"*17" rear. But that's not the point.

The biggest reason for the front/rear designation on tires is because the front tire is designed to take stopping forces (because of the front brake) and the rear gets momentum forces (from power from th engine). A CB100 isn't exactly going to be pushing tires to either limit.........so you could probably mount front/rear tires no problem. Just be aware of the tread pattern for water dispersing.

You could also lace up new wheels fairly easily- my old 175 had 18" wheels front and rear. Made it much easier to find tires.

Lol, Thanks for the correction on the size, makes things a little easier to understand now. I would rather someone tell me the hard way then never learn at all.

Now just for the sake of learning here, I could go with a 2.75*18 front and 3.00*17 back on those universals and get away with it.... I think (please correct me if I’m wrong here). This is my first street bike and being only a cb100, I was intending on using it as a around town (country town lol) and summer commuter to work.

If you like, please link any other tires that would work.
These were the tires I was looking at, http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/404/11893/ITEM/Michelin-Gazelle-M62-Moped-Tire.aspx

I've heard of a few people using the Gazelle's- and never heard anything bad about them. I think you would be good.

Being that it is such a small bike, might want to look at moped specific sites: mopedarmy, treatland.tv, 1977mopeds, etc. (Google those for the actual sites)
