Last summer I was given an '83 CB650SC that my uncles wrecked back in '84. I didn't have space, money, or time for another project so I gave it to a friend.
Bent frame, forks, front wheel, rear shock, cracked tail section, gauge cluster, and headlight housing.
So my friend bought a 550 frame off ebay for $40, and the swap began.
Test fit the turbo.
Not really, but it would be sweet.
It's just about done now, and we rode it around for the first time in almost 25 years.
Do the ton!
Not with that scary vintage sled helmet though.
Still need to rig up a headlight, gauge cluster (stock one has the mounts busted off), and side panels. The bike overall is kinda neat, since it is a 550 frame with a 650 swingarm which should be 1" longer. Also has the 650 forks with antidive and twin brakes, which my friend got some drilled CBR600F2 rotors for. The pod filters were needed because the carb->airbox boots were trashed, and they are halfway dialed in now. Both master cylinders were toast, so it has a remote-reservoir MC off a sportbike mounted upside down for the clutch, on dirtbike bars (no pics of those yet, just put them on).
We've only ridden it on gravel, so it's hard to give impressions on how quick it is, but it does spin up the brand-new-25-years-ago rear tire very easily. Nice and stable too, I rode out a burnout for 30-40ft before I realized the tire was spinning.
