hi.
so a little intro.
im new to the world of bikes.
just came into possession of a half-assed project bike.

1978 suzuki GS400.

it "ran" when i bought it. had pod filters and a straight pipe. was told that it had been jetted for them. so i took the carbs apart and saw that theyd put the wrong size mains in. i rebuilt the carbs. put the carbs back on. tried kickin it over for a while until i pulled the plugs to find i wasnt getting spark... at all. so i checked the grounds. they were...ok. checked my points and this is what i found.

first. they were upside-down. but i dont think that would affect the timing. but you tell me...

second. the Left point separates fully to only about 1 mm and the right point opens up significantly more (see photos). obviously they wernt tuned properly.

third. i found a small trace of oil in there. nothing on the actual points. whoever took the bike apart last didnt screw a phillips head in all the way and stripped it out. managed to tighten it up more so hopefully that'll hold it up.

coils look alright. deff original. bike odometer read 12,xxx but was broken when i got it.

whatayathink.... obviously get those points synced up but should i replace them while im at it? and the coils just because theyre old? they have miss matched wires and i hate not knowing what bolts have been turned on someones half finished project.
