The last time I checked for spark, I had it. The only difference now is that I dont have a battery hooked up. Is that the reason Im not getting spark? It shouldnt be....

Yes...

Why would you have spark if you have no voltage....? Think about it. what came 1st. The chicken or the egg!

the kick start came first.....seriously...I guess thats my bad for not letting you know my cl360 has a kickstart.

You still need a battery. The kicker doesn't generate enough (or a steady enough) voltage to charge the coils and deliver spark.

I know it does... But the stator needs a charge to put out a charge. I've had several 360's. the only way it'll fire without the initial boost of a battery is, with a magnito and cap. swear...

Your good, I dont think your full of shit. When I did get spark, it was with a completely dead battery. I just wasnt sure if it had anything to do with the circuit created with a connected but dead battery. er something

Ok so i got the battery hooked back up. Now I have spark, but its really weak on a fully charged brand new battery. Coils? Points?

Could be either.

First thing to check is all the electrical connections. Make sure they're tights and secure and free of corrosion.

Next up, check the points. Make sure they're gapped correctly and free of dirt and oil. A quick clean up with a points file every now and again is a good idea.

After that, replace the spark plugs if it hasn't been done in a while.

Ok, Ive checked all my connection before but might as well do it again.I am currently having trouble with the points cover, my wife broke my drill and the screws are in pretty solid. The bike only has 3000 original miles on it so nothing is really corroded at all.

It may only have 3000 miles, but it's also 35 years old. Also, get an impact driver. Your future self will thank you.

And dude, you said you "already" checked the connections, but, you guess you'll check'm again... get used to it! I went through my carbs9 times in 2 days before I caught the slightest mistake... Seriously

Every thing he is saying is spot on.

yeah, thats what I was thinking. Replace the coils because they are that old. I have an air impact, im trying to track down my phillips bit for it.

and that was last week. I rebuilt my 1st set at 17... so even with 20 yrs experience, you find, EVERY bike is slightly unique. Even if brand, model and yr are the same.
