NO sparky after custom harness

nedmmo

Been Around the Block
bike is a 1984 xl350r. single cylinder, CDI ignition.
got finished re-wiring the bike with a Sonreir x Nedmmo custom harness yesterday. plugged my cdi in after checking all accessories work and tried to kick her over to check we have spark. well the only sparks came from inside the CDI box accompanied by some crack and pops and the unmissable smell of burnt electrnoics. my fault i had the pickup coil wires crossed over.

well this morning i received my next chinese knockoff cdi. after all my research ive conluded that if they are the same plug as mine they all use the exact same pinout. got it locally for $30 as opposed to $100 for xl/xr specfic ones.
plugged in, triple checked that all the pugs were exactly the same as the pinout guides and also the same as the running factory setup. kicked it over a few times and no spark and possibly the smell of burnt electronics again. no fear, could be my fault and got the wrong info regarding CDI. so i then get my previous working CDI that has had the plug mangled, got it seviceable and plugged it in. kick it over and still no spark with the plug grounded on the head.

whats my next move from here? when i fried the first cdi with the pickup coil wires mixed up, could i of fried my Coil as well? i wouldnt think so cause that was plugged in correctly so the CDI the took the incorrect voltages. everything is sufficiently grounded.
my only other bit of concern is the way i have the killswitch hooked up. ive got fused red to one side of kill, comes out of killswitch to a double connector which splits between black wire for acc 12v and to the white wire at pin 1 of cdi? is that correct?

i dont own a voltmeter, should i go get one and start doing some resistance checking?

ok, slight headway.
realised that the killswitch at pin 1 of CDI is not supposed to connect to 12v but to the killswitch which grounds out the CDI. unplugged it and attached old known working CDI and boom, we have spark.

next problem is that with this setup of my killswitch controlling 12v power to the bike, how am i meant to use it to ground out the CDI?

Use the ignition switch to power the 12v to the bike - and use the kill switch to gound the CDI via the coil lead.

thats where it gets complicated. will be running a rfid igniton which i want to be able to depower with the killswitch.

dont worry, im talking to sonreir in the background and a normally closed relay will solve my issues. yaya, 3rd relay on a bike with stuff all space to hide things
