Old enough to know better
I found this site about one week ago. Been lurking (and drooling over the great bikes) since then.
.
I am a 60+ years old retired Architect/Contractor who has been into bikes forever. Well, at least from 13yo. I start with street bikes, got into dirt riding for over 20 years when I lived in Nevada, and now that I am back in California I am back to just street riding.
.
I like to take vacations on my Goldwing. I use the Ducati for sporting weekend rides.
.
Of all the bikes I have ever owned the two I regret selling the most were a 1974 Suzuki GT750 and a 1978 Suzuki GS1000. For the past few months I have been aiming to buy a GT or GS with no luck. I bid on a few but for one reason or another I was not sucessful. Last week I saw a very clean 1972 Suzuki T500 on E-bay being sold locally. Back when this model was being sold new I was riding a Suzuki X6 250 Hustler. A great little bike but too small for me. I yearned for a T500 but it was just too much money for me to afford at that time. So now when I saw what looked like a pretty clean T500 for sale I gave it my best shot. And I won the auction and drove the bike home two days ago. Actually I drove it half way home and AAA hualed it the rest of the way. Not a great start for a new scooter but it has got to get better from here. Right? It is an electrical problem and I plan on dumping the breaker point ignition anyway so no big deal. The T500 is going to get the full cafe treatment. My skills and tools are very limited but I will give it my best shot. Most of the bikes I have owned have remained stone stock. My current Ducati has a ton of small mods but does not look alot different from a stock bike. This T500 will be my first true custom. Wish me luck.
