NOS Akront Wheels

Been Around the Block
Hey all,

I picked up a pair of vintage Akront shouldered aluminum wheels the other day. They're both 18" and 36 hole.

Anyone have any thoughts on using these on a build? My vague idea when I bought them was that they'd be great on some old british period racer/"cafe", but I'm not an expert on lacing wheels.

I assume they were drilled for a certain application at some point, is this fair to assume? Would they be plug and play with any 36 hole hubs? What do you fountains of wisdom know!?

Thanks!

They are more then likely both drilled for drums. That's how most of the high shouldered guys were. There is a little play in the angle of the spoke, but you couldn't, say, lace a disk hub to a drum hoop without re-drilling and shimming the holes. Most drums of the era are similar enough they would work.
