hahaha! I got the light strip from.. uhh this place: http://www.customdynamics.com/ I found the best price there, and thats also where I found the led plate bolts. The plate bolts were kinda pricey, but whatever..
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
just a word on those plate LEDS. i got some and they are nice. mine are wired with about 20g leads. the wires lasted about two months before the vibrations finally broke them. i would suggest putting something (hot glue maybe) on the wires where they leave the body of the bolts. just make sure its is fexible. other than that. keep on keeping on
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
just spent all day sandblasting my frame.. I have sand everywhere-- yes, everywhere. It was kind of tedious because I was having a little trouble with the equipment, but the frame is basically done and Ill finish doing a few other parts tomorrow or wednesday. Gotta get a few bucks together so I can get JRK to powder the frame. I forgot to bring a camera today but Ill make sure to snap some shots of my makeshift sandblasting setup, Im sure you all will have a good laugh.
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
ha! Now that you say that I actually do think it looks pretty cool like that... but Im too anal to have a "ratty" bike.. But it definitely does have a sorta futuristic post apocalyptic look as is. Anyways the frame is already sand blasted, so theres no turning back now!
p.s. I looked in the mirror before taking a shower and from all the aluminum oxide dust on my face I looked like a coal miner.
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
I havent seen the episode! I need to download all the seasons cuz I know theres a ton of them that Ive missed.
Anyways, I didnt end up getting any action shots of the blasting, I wish I did because it was pretty funny. I was setup out front of my friends auto shop doing the blasting in a camping tent in snowboard goggles and a gas mask. Oh well. Anyways.. I was sitting up here in my room after a long day of bondo action on the tank and seat and I got bored. I brought the frame inside since I figured it would be dryer in here than out in the garage with all the rain. So here are a few pics I just snapped of the frame which is sitting right next to me in my bedroom
here and in the next pic you can see that the frame looks kind of wet in some spots. I figured out what it is.. when I was drilling holes to mount the seat some dripped down and hid in some crevices. Im not really sure what to do with this, but I figure JRK (hes gonna powder it) will know what to do..
And heres a pic of the battery/electronics tray.. dont think Ive posted a shot of this yet. It may be hard to see, but Im using two 6v batteries one will run long ways along the right frame rail, and the other will be positioned across the bike at the back of the tray. The brackets are snug so the batteries press fit in and dont need to be further tied down!
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
Are you not going to re-weld the frame and box in the down tube?? Now is your chance... Although you don't really need to if you never going to run it on a track... I didn't cause I didn't know about it, But I sure wish I did. Now is your chance!
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
Coming along pretty good Boom! That tail looks awesome-makes me wonder what you could do with some real fab tools. Cant wait to see how it all comes together!
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
thanks chiv! Next thing I fabricate Im going to do more studying though. I think the seat looks pretty damn good considering I just dreamed it up and went for it. But I just eye balled everything, and in the end its not perfectly symetrical and what not. I had a few other ideas of how to fabricate it which I think would have been more accurate. But ya I think having real tools would certainly help a lot!
BCB, Ive gone back and forth on whether I want to plug everything up or not, and in the end I just dont see the point. I may build a track bike in the future, but it wont be this bike. When I do get around to building a track bike though I def will find out exactly what it needs to pass spec.
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
man.. bondo on complex shapes is hell. It was easy on the tank because there really arent any small areas and its all convex... on the seat there is the frenched in light and license plate areas which are a bitch to sand. Next time Im definitely going to do more planning so that I can avoid having to use bondo in these annoying little areas. Its supposed to be in the 60's and sunny this weekend, so I really want to lay paint but Im not sure if I can sand fast enough...
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
just got back from JRK's place. Dropped off a bunch of stuff to get powdered. Definitely feels weird not being in possession of my frame, but I know its in good hands!
Ive gotta say, hes got some cool projects going, and the yamaha is soooo close to show & shine
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
I am going to blast on the frame some more, then when we stick it in the oven for an hour to out gas it i will double check the oil marks, but that should take care of it no prob, if not... thats what torches are for!
Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period! [New Pics!!]
hey man this is the color i was thinking of using on your frame.... what you think... you can see the gloss black in the letters goes awesome with this!!!
