(Not really) The slowest project ever - CM400T

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - Video of backfiring p6

it will run a lot hotter if its too lean, the piston and cylinder get too for and they expand to much and can seize or rattle and put some wear marks in your sleeve. or your valves get to hot and one bends and the piston comes up and hits and grenades your top and bottom end.

I see, makes sense. Thanks for the lesson!

Yeah, this being my first bike, I didn't know very much. The PO had used Scilicone for gasket on the case covers and that with the lean condition caused the right side to loose oil, a piece of the silicone plugged the oil passage a bit, The oil light came on, but there was lost of oil in the bike. What i didn't know was the light will come on if the bike gets too hot. I was cruising down the highway and the light came on, before I could pull over anc check the oil, crunch bang boom, piston tanked. Shitty feeling. I found and 82 parts bike cheap and put that motor in the bike and learned a whole bunch doing it, like to check my plugs at all RPMS to find lean and not to use silicone for gaskets on this type of bike.

Cheers,

maritime

Ive read that yamabond/hondabond tend to flatten out on the bottom of the case while permatex tends to ball up and end up in oil passages. Not sure how accurate this info is, but if you spread some parmatex and let it dry then do the same with yama/hondabond then kinda rub your finger on them the permatex does have more of a propensity to ball up.

Any updates?

Hey, sorry haven't been around for a while. Wrote the UFE and then got tried to get my life back on track.

The bike is pretty much done as it sits, still need to choose the right jets. When I finished the weather became horrible, so I don't think there is any point in putting it on the road this year. So I might do a couple of things to it over the winter, but not very likely. I will however take it outside and take some good pictures next weekend.

In the meantime, PM me if you have any questions.

If its backfiring when you try to dial in more revs it is most likely lean as buggery. Its hard to tell without being there, but that is my general experience. With pods and that minimalist (also very cool) exhaust setup, theres no way it'd be running rich on carbs jetted to standard settings.

I'd start out around 3 sizes larger on the mainjet and revert all other carb settings to stock. Try it from there, if it seems better but still not pulling hard enough in the upper rev range and full throttle zone, then go up another size. Its a very basic tuning maneuvre but will often be sufficient to get your bike running reasonably well with modified intake and exhaust. After you get the right mainjet in there, then you can mess with the needle height to fine tune further.

Hello.

Haven't been here in a while, but riding season is almost around the corner and I'm getting excited about it.

Thinking of removing the big seat and getting a little pad... makes the bike a bit too small, but I think I fit fairly well on it like this:

OH, btw, here's how she sat since I parked her in September:

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - yep... still not over.

what tires are those?
they look pretty beefy on this bike and i like it.

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - yep... still not over.

7~8 months aint too bad.
What size front tyre is that?
It looks way oversize judging by the bulge out from rim
I have barely been able to do anything on my 360 for last few months, was hoping to get it done by Christmas (2 months work)

7-8 month.. HA!!! Try 7 years!!! ;D ;D :p (i was interrupted by grad school and marriage for the record)

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - yep... still not over.

Rear tire is stock size 120/90-16
Front is slightly oversized 110/90-18 rather than 100/90-18

So really, they look beefy, but it's pretty much stock.

thanks for the sizes. what brand/model are they?

So,

It's been long and painful, but very enjoyable, but she's on the road now!
Fully insured, plated.

Special thanks to Tony for picking my bike from very far away, taking it to his shop and tuning it! I was ripping around on it all last night. There are a few issues that I noticed:

1. Speedo doesn't work - just have to recalibrate it, and re-wire to make sure settings are saved
2. It feels unstable/scary at high speeds - I was forced onto a highway yesterday due to a road closure, wow... scary (first time riding on the street ever)
3. I hit a big pot hole and the bike bounced a few times with the rear wheel all over the road - I think because of my extended shocks the chain tightened and as it compressed it made the rear-wheel lock up so I need to stiffen the rear suspension, or just put a proper chain tensioner in that moves as the chain slack changes.
4. I have a bad connection on the rear light and the daytime running lamp wasn’t working properly for the first 2 minutes of my ride (scary considering that I was riding at night).

Here are some photos from last night:

Right on man. Those pictures are great. The bike looks awesome! For the headlight, you may have to check the starter switch. Apparently the light circuit goes through there. When I got my CM it did the same thing. After cleaning out the contacts inside the switch, no problems.
Great job!

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - yep... still not over.

Awesome man! I'm glad to see you got that thing on the road and it looks GREAT. Now it's just tweaking and blasting.

Re: Slowest project ever - CM400T - yep... still not over.

Congrats Pavel! Sorry I was way to wiped last night, would have loved to see it running. If all goes well this weekend we'll have to go for a ride later in the week. Oh also your headlight housing is at the post office, i'm picking it up after 4 today.

Let me know if you need a hand with anything, i'll be around all weekend and don't have a bike to work on for the first time in ages.

Ps, don't let old man dip see you riding in those "boots" he'll be more of fuddy duddy than he is right now.

Re: (Not really) The slowest project ever - CM400T - on the road!
