Hey everyone. New member from Seattle here. Well, actually I have known of the site and lurked for many years. Decided it was time to jump on and join the fun. I have been into bikes all my life. Father was and still very much into bikes. Has more bikes than I could fit in my shop. I had been into modern Ducatis most of my life when about three years ago I decided I wanted to finally realize my dream of building a cafe'. So I sold my 999 to pull together the funds to finance the trip. Spent many months contemplating and surfing pics of bikes trying to figure out what to build when it hit me. My first street bike given to me by my father was a 78 SR500. Funny, I hated that bike then. All my buddies were riding cool Hurricanes, Katanas, turbo 500's.....funny thing, fast forward 20 years and you could have shot me if you had told me I would be selling my beloved Duc to buy a 78 SR500. As luck would have it my father still had that ole rat sitting in one of his many bike barnes. However she was too far gone for a new kids first build. So after searching high and low, you wouldn't believe how hard one of these is to find when you want one, I found an original 78 up in Canada. A day trip and $1200 later and I was on my way home with her. After some discussion my dad decided to dig the ole girl out and rebuild her at the same time I built mine. Didn't take him long to restore his back to original which turned out flawless. Mine took a bit longer but after about a year she was finally done. Well mostly. I keep working, changing bits here and there. At any rate, Couple pics of her before and after and one of my dad and I together when we met up in Montana the summer after we completed them.

Cheers,

Thump
