Novice question

I've got a 83 honda nighthawk cb650. I was riding it about a week ago and came to a stop light and the bike cut off. I was able to get the bike running in a near by parking lot but it didn't run for long. I don't think the bike is holding a charge is this a stator issue or should I be looking somewhere else?

First step is to buy a multi meter if you don't already have one.

Could be a lot of different things. You have that multimeter yet? ;D
