Hi From New Zealand.
Browsed here a while back before i got a bike and came back recently to see a bobber sub forum :)
heres what i started with a year ago. i meant for the project to move quicker than it has but i bought a house 6 months ago which has taken a lot of time.

Heres what i started with

At a later stage with a different exhaust and bars. mocking up fixed height

Where im at now
I cant stand the stock gauges but need to save up some cash to get a Trailtech Vapor. Paint is a quick rattle can black, will be satin black with some sorta lace panel on the tank and not sure what accent yet.

Im in desperate need of some short shocks and im not digging my seat pan but its hard to get something to fit with the frame
Appreciate thoughts and opinions

Kia Ora mate, Great start looks like you know where you're heading. If you're short on funds check out some of the seat builds in here, there's some good pans being made for skateboard decks that would suit your bike. Troybuilt has done one and I think Mike did one on an XS. Good luck and keep posting.

Love seeing more kiwi's on this forum ;D

Great looking ride, the S14 in the background looks proper too! Cheers

yea ive had that sticker laying round for years, thought it would liven up the tank till i get some lace paintwork done on it.
This thing causes me nothing but headaches. I put and exhaust from what i think was a CB 650 on it. The headers are a lot larger than the stock ones i had and with pod filters it ran like crap.
upped the mainjets to 110s and moved the needle 1 clip to richen then it was fouling plugs at idle non stop. moved the needle back to stock and its a lot better. did a quick and rough vacum sync with a friends single gauge that you cover the intake with. its better still but number 4 cylinder still backfires at times.

Had all sorts of wiring issues and packing electrics into that tube has been a mission. fried the rectifier when it fell onto the + terminal of the battery. Going to make a radioshack version this w.e for $15

Im pretty close to pulling out the whole harness and building one from scratch but i just want to get it rideable. im in the process of making a skatedeck seat pan and then hoping to get it legally on the road so i dont have to worry about cops when im test riding it haha.

will try and get some daylight pics this w.e as those night ones are fairly rubbish

i was asking $18k for the S14. its gone now, swapped it for an 04 mazda 6 wagon and some cash as it wasnt selling.
Took some pics in daylight today
Made a seat pan from a skate deck like troy's. was a free used deck so its not perfect but a good start. I might take the top black stained layer off and leave it wood. Also took the springs off the stock shocks to mock up ride height. Im getting some scooter shocks that are 20mm longer than the the mockup so will be a flicker higher. They are designed to be used solo on a scooter so 2 on the 500 should be pretty stiff.
Also found some lights for $1 ea that im gona use for warning lights. They fit perfect in stock holes in the gusset, the switch will be for headlight on.

That's a good idea for the lights. I guess the only one that needs to catch your eye is the oil pressure? You could tidy it up with a semi-circle plate that would keep it all flush, but that's just me and my OCD ;)

Looking good.

Oh, I meant to ask before. What are you doing with the 4-2 that was on the original bike?? I might be interested in those if you're thinking of off-loading them?

cheers

I love the look of your bike in the 1st pic, with ape hangers and the sprung solo seat. I woulda just stuck some struts on it at the ride height in the pic and rode it like that. But the bars that are on it now look really cool as well, and would probably be closer to what I would use on a metric bobber for comfort/rideability. I also skate (well, i ride a longboard), so the deck for a seat is a pretty cool touch as well. Cool bike, looking forward to more pics!

Cheers for the comments guys
Got the scooter shocks in the post and fitted temporarily. Had to swap the bushes from the old shocks to these to fit. The old ones are wider so i need to get some good sized washers to pack it tight. The bottom bolt is a 6mm instead of an 8mm and its too small for the mount. I think i'll get the holes filled on the shock and redrill them bigger a bit higher up. Pretty happy with the look though and they are nice and stiff. with me on they only compress 10mm. Hope to do a test ride on the w.e after i make a radioshack rectifier to replace the stock one i fried

hey man,
love the build.
what size of boots did you go with????
also what type of fender and mounting did you use, would like to see a good pic??????
i was going to do that, but was'nt sure how to do it. the right side prt of the swing arm is to far off set to the tire.
any way, looks good.
keep up the pics and progress.

Not sure what you mean with what size boots ?
The fender is a custom fibreglass one a guy here in NZ makes. Its not as flush as id like it to be but will do for now. Its held by some rear struts i made from packaging frame in the box i got my trolley jack in. The front part i drilled holes into the swingarm and put rivnuts in. Hole through the fender and a bolt into the swingarm. at some point i will make a nice tube to cover the exposed bolts.

Hey swagger, I made a skateboard seat too! I do not know if I will use it, it is not as wide as I really want, but I did post pics a while back.
