This is my 1953 Cromwell I picked up in Italy at a market for about 80 Euro.

Is that a B-25 Mitchell I spy? "The Widow Maker?"

I'm a Dehavilland Moquito fanatic. Them and the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. The two best airplanes ever made.

I as well as far as the B17... My great grandpa flew one with the 8th out of England. Been in a few, and they are amazing. The local county airport is home to a group called Air Heritage. They restore and fly wintage warplanes. They also have a fully operational B17. Beautiful stuff.

Anyone know what the hell this lid is?

I've repainted it and such already, and I am pretty sure its just a cheap crappy knockoff of a Bell, but maybe someone actually knows what it is?

I think it is a Fulmer.....

I can't tell because I can't seem to find much info on vintage full face helmets besides the Bell Star. This one has seams where the two little black and chrome trim pieces are on the "cheek" area, I think most of the larger name brand helmets I have seen were a solid piece without these seams.

I am almost positive it is a fulmer, the full coverage model had those cheek stripes. If you look on ebay they are listed as fulmers. Having said that, I am no expert, but have one just like it only silver....

I completely agree! I have a tattoo featuring B-17's and Mosi's are close to my heart as well. My grandfather flew the Flying Fortress in WW2 then after 35 missions volunteered with the RAF and flew a Mosquito!

Other than being in a war and getting shot at, he was very lucky. To have been able to fly in BOTH of those magnificent aircraft is enough to make me jealous.

I wish I could get the chance to go up in one of the B-17's still in use today. My brother was lucky his wife bought him a ticket to go up about 2 years ago! I got to watch from the ground and took a bunch of photos. I don't know nearly as much about the Mosi's because the B-17 was sort of a family favorite being that is what my grandfather set out to fly and in fact he went through two of them in the war (as in one was shot down.)

FYI, Mosquitos were built in Toronto during and after WWII. From Wikipedia:

"de Havilland Mosquito
Before the end of the Second World War, de Havilland Canada built 1,134 Mosquitos, of which 444 were on strength with the RCAF in models Bomber Mk VII through Trainer Mk 29 from 1 June 1943 to 28 September 1951."

damnit, someone posted a link to an ebay auction with an orange rebcor helmet and I thought it was this thread. Well I won the auction and I havent gotten a damn response from the seller in three days.

dude! my grandfather was in the 8th...they probably knew each other.

Unfortunately he passed away in 2001. His name was James Clifford Evans, in case you have any pilot lists or memorabilia. He was a lawyer outside of Pittsburgh after the war (Fox Chapel.)

My great GPa was from Jersey. Boonton NJ actually. Hes still with us but not very strong on the memories. He has tons of old stuff from his service days though. Ill look into it.
