howd you mount it on the inside? this is awesome
Thanks, sorry I missed your question, attached by a revit through the helmet and velcro to keep the angle you like.

$3 Thrift store special. Bought it with the intent of using it, BUT the foam is turning to dust. Now its just decoration.
The real bummer is that I can see a sexy green flake were the paint is chipped or missing, but I have now idea how to get the paint off. I would say paint thinner, but who knows what that would do to the original finish.

I also have a DOT approved pudding bowl I got off ebay, but its so big I look like a walking mushroom when I wear it.

The original finish is on the inside of the helmet. Use some alchohol and some REALLY fine steel wool. May take the old paint off. Very slowly though. Once you get it off, you can buff the plactic back to a shine. Also, search the site... There is a thread on relining the old helmets. Just be warned that old helmets dont provide any actual protection. They will hopefully keep your brain and skull in one place for easy cleanup though.

Ha! Thanks for the advise man.

Ok first of all I have to say that you are all crazy  for collecting old motorcycle helmets.

That said.....uh ......um.......here's one of my helmets.

I remember as a kid around 1970-71 my dad decided he needed a new helmet for the passenger. So off he went to the local hardware store. I remember being excited when he returned, wanting to see what it looked like. When he pulled out the helmet it was a bright gold metal-flake! Even then I was not impressed. The only good thing was that it matched the gold seat on my banana bike.
We kept it though several moves and eventually I took it with me when I moved out. I'm not quite sure why I kept it. I think I was hoping it would eventually be an antique and kind of cool. Well many years later I realized that it would always be a gaudy old helmet and.............painted it flat black. :-[

That's right under that black paint is a lightly scuffed gold metal-flake. Sorry! I had no idea that they would ever bee popular again
Eventually the inside material turned to dust so instead of throwing it out I gutted the whole inside with the idea of possibly making a seat out of it.
You might notice the mesh vents over the ears. This seemed like a good idea in the store "Hey I can hear what your saying." But once on the bike its design flaw was quite apparent."Oh my god I think I might be deaf."

pin up's the way to go

is this printed/painted on, or is this a sticker? I want to do a pin-up type thing with my next helmet and haven't found much as far as pin up stickers, any pointers?

After my lack of forsight on the last helmet I thought I would try to make it up with this one. It used to belong to my mother. It is an early 60,s (maybe older) pudding bowl. It has been painted from original. It used to be a grass green (not verry nice) and pretty beat up.

Yea I'm not sure that "Skidmaster" is the best name for a helmet. Especially one that only protects the very top of your head. I just read an article in a classic bike magazine about old helmets and because of that heart shaped symbol below "England" in the picture, it's legal to wear in England. I don't see how 4mm of cork would provide much protection. :-\

Ok I saved the best for last. This one is 100% original, never been painted. This was my dads helmet. It's early 60's maybe late 50's? Dad always kept this one on a shelf above his desk, he was quite proud of it.

Yes it's my dads old Buco helmet.

I have never seen another one like it. The sides flair out instead of curving in and there is a leather flap to cover the ears. I'm not sure if the chin cup came with the helmet, Dad may have added that himself.

Well I hope that makes up for painting the ugly gold helmet. ;D

Just scored this from feeBay for $16 bucks!
It's a Bell Spirit from the early 90's, but in brand spankin new condition with original box and warranty card.

Now I just gotta doll it up with some masking tape and paint. Maybe airbrush some sculls, or boobs on there or something ;)

My latest bucket. This makes 8 and counting. It's a Bell Zephyr. Brand new. Bought it on leatherup.com on closeout for $40. Having a tiny head pays off sometimes. They always have size small helmets on closeout. And it matches my vintage Spartan leathers perfectly

I don't wear either of these helmets. Just collect 'em. Swapmeets, garage sales, etc. Can't pass up a size small helmet

Here is my new Biltwell Helmet. I put the stickers on it until I can get it painted. It will be the same color with a big 69 in a circle painted on the side/top in antiqued orange and white....

Nice! that's two in captivity now. I have to laugh when I see old helmets with just webbing an a layer of cork to protect you.
Space master! sounds like a portable heater.

I have a cool old Arctic Cat brand helmet from te 70s that flares out like that... Its getting some love from one of our favorite artists right now, but when finished Ill post a pic.

My new Fulmer V2 DOT helmet :p :p :p .....
