Some bikes came with them, some not. What bike are you thinking of, maybe you will be able to install one without too much trouble. Yes, I run one on my bke, not that it needs it, doesn't get hot enough here, but still looks cool. John.
You can get them third party for the XS650 and for BMWs. I've got a third party one for the XS650. Not sure if I'll install it though. Probibly a good idea though.
I run a lockhart cooler from an older race setup tx750 a friend was selling. It was one of the easiest mods I have done to my tx650. making a flow restrictor was the hardest to figure. I used an old engine mount bolt from the top end. I cut it down to 1 inch drilled a 3/16 hole throught the center of it used a dremel to round off the bolt head. used a 3/8 bit to counter sink the rounded head to get flow to the hole. the bolt slides right into the bottom cut section of the oil return line. I put 2 tacks to hold it in place.
bam. flow restrictor
When you cut the oil return line make sure you rough up the ends so the line has something to grab on to when you clamp it down.
They are getting less common, as I just took mine off after 20 years.
I stripped my oil drain bolt three years ago. My cooler lines hooked up to the oil pan. I did retap it, but had a little leak.
I've had a spare pan sitting around since then, so finally decided to switch it, loosing the cooler.
I've been told that an Oil Cooler is not necessary, unless your in a hot climate, which I'm not.
I had it installed many years ago when I had the engine rebuilt.
I find it kind of funny that yamaha would ship the euro version of the seca to canada and not the us... we get an oil cooler in our colder climate. Not complaining, though, I'm happy about it.
like most other companies and mostly the U.S. government restrictions.
Most things we get can be equated to american cheese.
American cheese is cheddar with about 75% more milk to water it down so to speak.
All the fun stuff is made to be used in britian and Asia. Canada and Australia are the overflow and we get squat.
