I'm running stock headers, reverse cone mufflers and pod filters on my cb360t. I just picked up a set of vm30's from todd henning that were to replace my stock carbs. The mikuni's are supposedly jetted correctly for a mild cb350 and the guys at THR seem to think they should be fine for my mostly stock 360. So here's the question, do i stick with the already tuned stock carbs that are freshly rebuilt or throw on the mikuni's and hope that they are indeed setup "close enough" for my 360? I just don't know if it's worth the headache and need some outside opinions.

What is wrong with your stock ones? Why do you want to change them? If your looking for performance enhancement (try extends, hahaha, kidding :D ) then I would say it is worth the headache of trying to jet it properly. Jetting will most likely be nessisary for proper running conditions.

If you got them from THR they were not cheap.
Open them up and tell us what jets are in there, that will give a good indication if they are going to work right

Nothing is wrong with the stock ones, they were freshly rebuilt by the PO. The only reason i wanted to do the swap was that i'm more familiar with mikuni/dellorto style carbs, and like the responsiveness of round slide carbs.

PJ, No they were not cheap at all and after talking with them i had nothing but faith that they would be pretty damn close as far as jetting for my bike. Since i posted i got the carbs installed on the bike and only checked the main jet, which is a hex 190. It did however fire right up, got the idle set and took it up the road and back. The lowend and mid range seem pretty good, snappy, very responsive, the top end is questionable, sputtering/hesitation from 3/4 to full throttle. Pulled the plugs and they seem pretty dark. My experience with this type of carb is on 2 strokes and mostly dellorto's so any info you can offer is greatly appreciated.

If all else fails i've got the stockers to fall back on.

Well let me ask you this, aren't the hex jets rated for smaller amounts of fuel flow compared to the round jets? All of the research i've done says that most people are running 130 - 150 round jets, so if the conversion chart i found is right, a 190 hex jet should have roughly the same amount of flow as a 130 round jet. Does this sound right?

Well i've opted to run the stock carbs for now while i do some more research and order a nice range of jets. Thanks for the input guys, i'll get some pics of the bike before and after on here pretty soon.

those mikunis suck. give them to me and forget you ever bought them :D :D

in all seriousness... i have yet to see a carb that is sent properly "pre" jetted. get an assortment of jets and a book on working with the mikunis (sudco has one) and get them tuned properly. If the hex jets really are different, then the sputtering at the top end can be fixed by raising the needle a notch or two.

Yea i've got jets on order. As for the sputtering on the top end it's past the point of the needle effecting it. The needle doesn't effect much of anything after 3/4 throttle. Oh well i'll get it ironed out as soon as the jets come in.

ahhhhh you have real carbs!!!!say good bye to the cv junk,,,yes they are jetted to match a cb 350,,,,but happen to fit cb360 boots(thats handy)I think THR supplies with #175 mains and huge pilots(#45???) stock 350 with vm 30's and performance exhaust,,should be jetted at #165 6mm hex jet(+-),,,should be close to your cb 360,,,as for the needle and needle jet,,,,,,,no comment ;D

Todd, thank you for the input. I spoke with THR today, they confirmed that my carbs had the wrong mains in them and are sending out the proper jets on monday. Hopefully i'll be in business with the proper jetting by next weekend.

leave it to THR to have good customer service.

always liked that company :D

I bought mine from Carb Parts Warehouse and they jetted them for a stock CB350 but included some higher and lower jets for me to dial it in with. I thought that was pretty cool of them.

Well the guys at THR we happy to replace the jets once i let them know of the mistake. The jets came in the mail this afternoon and as long as it doesn't snow tomorrow i should be able to give them a test run. Either way i'll be putting in an order for a range of smaller jets.

vm mikuni's,,,,,28?? to 34mm require cb 360 boots to adapt a cb 350 twin...and there not splayed(angled) like stock insulators. If you run stacks they will fit very tight to the down tube.another trick is to machine the spigot to fit the cb 350 insulator(boot),,,,,with race THR stacks(not my lump).......very slick ;D
