Optimal height for motorcycle table?

What's the height for the bench? Putting one together this weekend...

I would say first question is how tall are you? Next is how tall is the average bike you plan on having on the thing? Then figure out where comfortable is FOR YOU and build it that height.

AS for instance, I have a ATV/MC jack that gets the frame under the engine up off the ground about 18" inches, which is high enough for me to SIT comfortably on my stool and work on the engine. I'm 5' 8" and really I would want a table to be about 2 1/2 to 3 FEET tall to make it comfortable to stand up and work on the bike.

Also of key consideration is how you're getting the bike on and off the table. Is there always someone around to help? Higher you go the tougher it is to get it up there without having it topple over on you.

Higher you go the less stable it will be as well. If I was building a wood bench to work on the bike I'd probably leave it at 18" or so high. That being said I've never had a table to work on my bike at. Will probably build something for the next project on casters so I can move it around easily.

adjustable: at 2 heights would be good, I have 2 large "apple boxes" to put the bike on, I use them on their side for the high height (maybe 36") and then when Im working on handlbars and stuff where I need to get on top of bike then I turn the boxes on their belly (maybe 14") I use a ceiling mounted hoist to lift the bike up (attached in 2 locations on bike) while I changing the propping and levels of the bike setup, I leave the hoist attached to bike when up high to keep it from falling off when I'm working. I can do it all on my own.

I built this one. 18" tall. Pretty much does all I need at the house. Easy to put the bikes on and off by myself.

How do you go about getting it on and off by yourself. That is the big sticking point with me building one, I don't have anyone close by to lend a hand so I need to be able to do it myself.

Exactly! I have an aluminum folding ramp that I use. It fits nicely under the table.

BTW, I'm 6' 1" and have no trouble rolling any of the bikes up on the table by myself. Also, that is a Harbor Frieght wheel chock mounted on the front of it.

Here is my bench. My dad and I made one for each of us. Its about 24" tall. Mine is a little higher because it has wheels, They make it super nice because I can roll the bike over to my work bench or closer to the welder if I need. With smaller bikes I don't have any trouble rolling them up the ramp by my self. If it were a heavy bike you would want a second guy around. My dad mounted a 4-wheeler winch on his so he can drag anything up on his bench.

Mine are also about 24" plus casters. The height is nice for working low on the bike, but frustrating for anything half way up and higher. If I was to do another one I might make it a little lower, between 6 and 12 inches lower.
