Options for discontinued OEM parts

do the stun

My 76 CB550 needs a neutral indicator switch and bike bandit shows not available but eBay has NOS parts for a huge mark up, $2.70 part for $25...

But if they're not available what are the other options out there? Or just suck it up? I'm new so please excuse my ignorance.

Thanks!

What HD said. Hit a lot of Honda Dealers online. I found quite a few still have NOS on hand at reasonable (compared to E-Bay) prices. I bought new fork caps, rubber plubs for the rocker arm covers....

Even if one dealer says discontinued, try another.

This place http://www.westernhonda.com/ says call to check. they have discounted prices, and sometimes can find NOS that is discontinued. E-Bay, unless it's a fantastic deal, is usually no deal at all....

WTF do you need a neutral light for? It's always in the same place, easy to find. Next thing you know, you'll be looking for a dick locator so that you can take a piss. SHEESH!

OK, enough levity...
I get a lot of my OEM parts from Crossroads Powersports. They are a local dealer to me, and one of the parts guys lives a couple miles from my shop and drops stuff off to me in the morning on his way to work. Not relevant to you, necessarily, but their on-line microfitche gives the original OEM parts numbers. When it comes to discontinued parts, I call them on the phone and they are able to look on-line to see what dealers nationwide have specific parts listed in their inventory.

That's f'ing hilarious!!!

I have used http://www.ohiocycle.com/ a lot along with the local guys. You'd be surprised sometimes at what the local shops can do for you and the cheap prices they have on some things... Ebay is good for old used, hard to find parts that are not available anywhere. For NOS, new, or current parts it is almost always MORE expensive on ebay.

+1 on the honda parts look up. Find out what your OEM Honda part number is and call a few local shops and check online under that OEM part number. That same part may be used on 1000 other bikes and you may just be looking in the wrong spot.

That is so true. Recently needed a "mechanical seal" for a Honda CX500. Honda wants 60 fucking dollars for it! That seal is used in practically every water-cooled motorsport vehicle in existence, ATV's, snowmobiles, personal watercraft, and thousands of hot tub water pumps. The seal costs something like $10 if you get it from the right source.

Agreed, The ones I posted have a "reverse look up" feature that once you find the proper Honda part number you can then see what all other models it is used on. Very handy !

My dick is firmly between my legs, thanks for the laugh!

I bought it with damage that happened when the chain snapped and destroyed that stator bracket and indicator switch, was told it needed the neutral light to use the electric start, am I wrong?

I found the proper part numbers from this forum so I'll try online for them from honda shops.

Thanks for all the references!!,
