Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Did run in to a problem last night working on the foot pegs all my fault . Took lil to much off the tip of the peg to get it to fit but hey your going to have that from time to time . So planning on running the stock pegs for now and this winter pulling them off and makeing a nice pair of rear sets. ::)

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Dude! I haven't been on here in a long time but your XS is blowing my mind. You definitely surpassed mine. I am truly honored to see this beauty.

How do you like the newtronics electronic timing?

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Thank you very much man ! I've had alot of help from some great members here and have to say your bike is one of the XSs that inspired me ! As for the Newtronics set-up have to say was very easy to install on the bike . On first start up all i needed to do was adjust the cam as it was 180 out and fired right up . Im still waiting on spacers but got news today the back are all done . As soon as i get it all done and road worth i will get a full report on here to let yea know !

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Before you put any serious miles on, I've heard some disturbing things from the TX/XS forum regarding the Newtronic unit. Not a huge deal before you ride aways, but make sure your ignition rotor is put together solid. Newtronic uses a small solder joint to hold the disc to the rotor shaft, and several have failed. I'm planning on hitting mine with a couple quick spot welds for security. Got the idea from jimmer.

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Will have to take a look at that and seeing as jimmer would bring that up its most likely true as the man knows the XSs inside and out !

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

No real update as of now waiting on spacer still for the rear wheel ! Also pick up another bike Yamaha FJ and been messing with it .

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Well mid-Ohio is over and picked up something for the XS that i think it was missing . And taking to a few guys from DTT and a few drink really think i need to run rear sets on it for comfort and looks . I really want this bike to be everything in my minds eye so not sure will have it done this year but io know will be well worth it . Had a few ideas thrown at me from justin, mike, and brad so ive been doing some thinking and have a few ideas. Hope to get it out this year but if i wanted it right im not thinking it will. But hey thats how these things go . Heres what i picked up at MO .....

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Man, this bike looks good in pictures but in person it blows you away. You have a bike to ride so take the time to get this one right so you are happy with it for sure. Thanks again for the hospitality and I hope to get to drink beer(s) in your garage again someday soon, and if you ever feel like riding 1300 miles, you got a place to crash, drink beers etc.

Mike

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Thanks man and yes the door is always open to you guys ! Glad to see you made the trip home safe and sound mike and one day would love to take a ride up your way ! And thanks for the kind words on the XS and now that i got the FJ running last night have 2 that run . So will be taking the time to get the XS just right and make you guys proud !

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Well i have decided to do a few more things to the XS as i said befor not coming out till spring. Will be adding rear-sets and tack which means a few things. To place the rear-sets right and because i placed the tack where the key was i will be pulling motor back out and if need be back down to just the frame ::) Funny i just got the wiring back into the frame and just needed the spacers finished and would have been ready to go ! But as i said befor i cant seem to leave things alone and dont think i would be happy with it if i did . Will get pics up with what im up to and also am on the hunt for 13 inch shocks if anyone has a lead on a pair !

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

So spent the night turning the tac from chrome to black and carbon fiber to match the speedo. Also working on moutning key and mounting bracket to relocate it . After i get this done will move onto the rear-sets and motor can go back in .

Thanks justin and thanks brad for hooking me up !

Re: Out in a field Build ... The Sock Monkey

Im not sure if you've got your caliper/disk problem sorted already, but what i would do is the following:

Make a alumium spacer ring as wide as it needs to be. Drill 5 holes where the hub-bolts are. Countersink 'em half way thru. Drill 5 more holes in the adapter, between the 5 you've already done, and tread those. Bolt the ring on the hub using the countersunk holes and locknuts. (makes it flush)
After that use 5 bolts and screw the disk on. Presto!

If you dont want to make the alu treaded you could also countersink the disk holes and use allen bolts with heads a little bigger in diameter then the holes. That way you can screw the nuts on without the bolts turning and its stronger as the heads of the allen bolts wont come loose (the threads in alu may...)

Awesome job so far, must be one of the sickest transformations ever. If the bike's ready you should go to the PO and make him feel sorry for neglecting a rough diamond. Would be a kick-ass lesson in life haha
