Ozark Mtn Scramble Build - CB350

whats up captain? I have some XS wheels at the shop and though about using them but with this little bike I thought I would stay with the smaller wheels, I think the XS wheels are going to make their way on a bike soon though as I picked up a nice GT 750 front hub at Barber and I am dying to get it onto something, maybe a 350 F. Been trying to get this computer to load some pics tonight and it don't want to. Watched the youtube vids of the 400 last night, man that is a cool bike but that freaking seat would kill my ass.

I would love to have some 4ls brakes, but unless a super deal falls in my lap I will pass.

I'm pretty happy with how the kz is turning out. I started the fiberglass for the seat pan right before the weather went shitty, and on top of that ran out of resin. I'll get back to it soon enough though.

Jay, when you wrap up the 360, shoot us some pics. We always appreciate pics from people who use our parts.

Once I get this cb360 together, I'm coming down to ride with you. Maybe I can get in on the next rally.

I'm pretty sure I used to own the 360 you are building right now. It's been a few years though.

I wouldn't mind a good 360 myself, but I really have never seen a bike I didn't want. Been working on the shop today trying to get Slipstream's operation moved has been a pain in the ass but the added space is going to be worth it. I have a few pics of the wheels coming together and they turned out pretty good . I had to do a little work on the rims and then blast the chrome to give the primer a good surface to bond with and painted them with some blue I had left over from another job. Even with hardener in the paint it sucks trying to get the tires on painted rims , I know, I should go with powder coat but I am on a budget with this bike and building and painting the stuff myself don't cost anything but time. I cleaned up the casting flash and trued up the fins on the center of the hubs, drilled through and spot faced for SS button heads to pin the brake liners , not like I am going to be stopping that hard with this bike but it is what the factory Honda race bikes had done back in the day and it give the hub a nice touch. Drilled some air vents on the front hub and will either cover with some cool air scoops like I saw on an AJS factory race bike at Barber's museum or some SS screen.

Possibly. I bought it from a guy in Elkins. I'm pretty sure its been a local bike forever.

It been several days since we got to work on the bike but maybe we will be able to spend the weekend on it, I have the frame blasted and hope to try out the new paint booth and see how it works, we are supposed to get 4 inches of rain tonight and in the past that would mean no painting for a day or so. If you like to ride yr. round Arkansas is not the place to be, single digits and ice last week, 75 and tornado's this weekend. Seat pictured on frame is not the one we will use but I do like that style on the 350 and it has a recess for the light in back, may look at one of these in carbon fibre and see.

We have several projects going on right now and getting ready to rebuild my CB 500 that Jarred has used for his daily trans for the last three yrs, it has really been a damn good test bike , this bike ran our rear sets for two yrs before we ever sold a set, has had more shit bolted, welded, strapped and taped on it , been laid down several times and above all has run open velo stacks for the whole damn time and still runs like a scalded ape. Stop by anytime and check out the shop, we are setting up a bay with lift for nuts like us to bring their bikes in to work on.

Man, that sounds awesome. I'll message you the next time I'm road tripping. Cheers!

Ok, been paying some bills and now it is time to get back on the 350. Got the swing arm painted and for the first time the outside temp didnt matter! Turned out good and I will set the bike together and see what things look like before I paint the frame, and polish the front forks. Wheels are painted and back together, hubs look good and shoes can now have radius cut on them. I stayed in the shop till 3am last night getting all of the stainless fasteners close,( not polished yet). I decided to go with the acorn nut style on all of the nuts and bolts, axles, etc. I will also go through fitting the R5 frontend on the CB350 frame in detail, it looks the part on this frame and really is not all that hard to adapt using the taper bearings. I have a few pictures here and will add more of the fasteners being machined and the frontend fitting. For the guys here that have a machining background I know the way I put the radius on the lower shock bolts is a little backwards since I have a lathe here in the shop but when you have 30 plus yrs in you sometimes get tired of the same old way, besides using the mill to do this really leaves a very nice finish.

Good stuff there Mark, your attention to detail is top notch. I wish you lived closer, I would definitely enslave you on more than one occasion for stuff like that.

. Man if we lived closer I would be trying to get you to build shit over at our shop, your approach to bike building is very cool.

I don't know about all that. I'm just a hack.

Yep, call it what you want, the KZ is cool as was the CB350. That is what people like, real bikes that get the shit ridden out of them. Ask Andy how many people stoped at his bike at Barber, hell it got more pictures than any bike I saw.

Been toying around with some different styles of bolt head, several in the trash now, but I think I will go with the acron style with flutes, if you can call them that, c/bored into the radius. Kind of looks cool even though the picture of the brake pivot bolt is not that good. I think when the axles and all of the machined bolts and nuts get this treatment it will be ok. Hope to have all of the fasteners wraped up this weekend and get this thing rolling.
