Paint and Keeping Bare metal from rusting questions

What I'm doing with my tank is part of it is going to be bare metal, but there will basically be a black stripe on each side of the tank that follow the natural curves of the tank. The metal is actually looks kind of "brushed", I purposefully left circular marks on it by using roloc scotchbrite disks, I like it so far!

Here's the thing - I need a way to keep it from rust. I'm thinking spraymax 2k clearcoat is one good option, I can't figure out any other good option yet. Thing is, the front forks and headlight are flat black right now, I can't decide whether I want to do the tank in flat black and then clearcoat so it's a Semi Gloss that matches the front end more, or use normal paint for a full blown gloss.

Something in my head says I should just go ahead and try an make it be a full blown, really deep looking gloss black. What do you guys think? Any options other than spraymax for keeping the bare parts from rusting or other suggestions?

I guess if I wanted to keep the sides flat black I could use Por 15 on the front, but then the black wouldn't be gas resistant which isn't desirable.

If you clearcoat over bare metal, the clear will likely not adhere properly and eventually come off. You should clear primer it first and then clearcoat it. Where I work, we do a lot of painting on aluminum and if a customer wants a bare aluminum look, we use clear primer then a clearcoat over top. I know the stuff we use works on aluminum, but, I'm not sure if it works on steel or other metals. If you like I can get some info on it from our painter.

you could paint the sides black then Por-15 PC Glisten the whole thing...
