I'm almost to the point of painting the tank, seat, and front fender. Would like some ideas.
Being a harley, I could always go black, or a matte black "denim" look. Not sure I want to do that. do you think a matte red would look good? My buddy does body work on the side and he likes to buy implement paint and use extra hardener, which gives a very durable, rat rod type paint.
I would like to keep things simple, as I think the cost of having a custom designed job would be too pricey. Anyways, What do you guys think I should do with the paint?
I still have to rewire it, paint the engine and clean up the chrome frame or paint it as well.
Black and Orange is the obvious answer, but what about a nice metallic silver for that Manx Norton look.
Or Black gloss with Gold highlights/pinstripes/lettering for a classis Velocette/Vincent look.
Or check out "No Regrets" that Roland Sands built for color ideas. That one is a little much to try to copy but may give you some different ideas to play with. Or Greggs Customs "Helion" - again for color combos.
That certainly is a mean looking bike, very nice indeed.
I have been toying with colour schemes for my CB550 and I am going with black frame, black engine with polished parts with orange parts like grips and pipes etc but also with orange and white pinstriping.
Well it is after all a Harley and nobody ever made the crowd mad by painting a Harley black and orange. Here is a picture of my big bike, maybe it will give you and idea (like everyone else, I'll use any excuse to show off my bike):
I'm now thinking of doing the Hot Rod Flatz Twilight metallic, and then either a racing stripe down the middle or retro flames with clear over the top. Here is an example, only in black.
so I don't know if you have moved ahead withe it yet but in my view those round topped tanks deserve high gloss. Mat black is for trailer-park streat fighters.
Whoa. I beg to differ. Matte (or mat as you call it) black is not "for trailer-park streat (street??) fighters" it looks pretty damn classy with gloss patters or stripes over it. Ill post some of my other flat black bikes today when I get to a computer
To me all flat paint bikes look like the builder ran out of money and couldn't finish the bike. They all look like they were left in primer to me.
That bike has some beautiful swooping lines, the paint job that goes on it should take advantage of that and exaggerate it to every extent possible. If I were painting that bike I'd pick a theme and then I'd go hog wild on it and one thing I can guarantee you, there would not be one single 'flat' square inch on it when I was done. I'd base it in black but after that I'd blow your eyes out with color - that bike just screams for it.
Flat black? I'd as soon shoot it in rattle can primer and leave it parked out in the rain.
