Paint Shop

Been Around the Block
Getting ready to paint my GPZ900R (not a cafe, I know). But was wondering if anyone has used Duplicolor's Paint Shop. Hell of a deal on it at Autozone, buy 2 cans of color and get the clear or primer for free. I used to paint cars and have used Duplicolor rattle cans for little stuff and other bikes. Just never tried this stuff and wanted some opinions. The lower pic is a rattle can paint job I did. Hoping for similar results in the can stuff.

Heard both good and bad man. I guess it just depends on if your going for nice, or show quality. Its not show quality...

That's what I use exclusively - cuz there's an AutoZone about 3 blocks from my house. It's def not show quality but it can turn out really nice if you put the time into it.

Well there ya have it. BigR to the rescue! Ya seen my man Ben in there recently Rich? He is a goldmine of knowledge and ideas man. Super good guy.

dont waste your time with and I'll tell you why , for one its not gas resistant , not uv protective . and if you have a compressor and a spray gun already the duplicolor will not be your cheapest option. If you have a nappa where you live , you can get a single stage paint that was made to use on machinery for really cheap , Nason is the brand its made by dupont , im not a professional painter by anymeans but i do like painting as a hobby but here is an example of what im talking about , i dont remember prices but it was less than 50dollars to paint the whole bike supplies and all, with alot of paint left over for other projects

good results can be had for cheap , plus its gas resistant

Wow Screwed, that looks really nice. Has me wondering where a Napa is around here..... And you're mostly right about the gas resistance on the Duplicolor - I've used it to paint my Suzuki and haven't had any problems but the Honda tank has gas stains on it that I'm going to have to go over.

And Von - I see him in there all the time but either he's busy or I'm in a rush. Don't know if you've been to the store he works at and know the layout of Ellwood, but there's and Advanced right across the street from Autozone. Kinda funny how they did that

Ah yes NAPA, i have used them before more specifically the NAPA also needs to be a C-MAX as well if you guys are in the toronto area i recomend the NAPA / C-MAX in pickering on Brock rd. (NOT brock st in whitby) south of the 401, Steve is a great guy he will help ya out a fair bit

To elaborate more on the nason line there is the acrylic enamel or "ful cryl" and acrylic urethane, "ful-thane" i tried the acrylic enamel on my car and it kinda sucks very soft and scratches very easily, last time i talked to Steve at C-max i mentioned i wanted to get the frame powder coated and he suggested the ful-thane being close in durability at a quarter of the cost. so thats the plan

i may do everything in the ful thane, the base clear kit is gonna cost me almost $300 for just the tins so i could just get a third can of colour, and combined with the other 2 colours for the frame be under $150 for all the materials.

I've used the "Paint shop" and the clear with it and it looks good but not gas resistent as has been said. I've heard good things about the Nason and am using that on the 200.
