Painted Rims and Spokes

Been Around the Block
My chrome rims and plated spokes are a little rusty and I want to freshen them up. I know a lot of people on here have had rims sand blasted, and powder coated, wanted to know if anyones just used spray bombs or a catalyzed automotive paint? I want to try the catalysed acrylic urethane, i used on the frame, Im just concerned the rims will end up scratched to shit when i have the tires mounted (professionally)?

Same sorta deal with the spokes and nipples, I was just gonna wire wheel or lightly sandblast them then spraybomb them gold, not sure how those are gonna stand up, when i have to re-lace and true the wheel. Im concerned all the action is gonna scratch them all up, and make a huge mess. Im kind of on the fence, about this, still may get new spoke kits?!?!?

Thanks Chris

+1.

Ive seen index cards and playing cards stuffed between the rubber and the wheel as well.

Regardless of the paint used (appliance epoxy holds up great btw) a good clear coat will also stand up to abuse too.

Ratlle can works pretty good as long as it has a good surface to stick to.
I roughed up front spokes and didn't have any issues fitting them when building wheel.
Rushed a bit on rears and did manage to scratch some paint off (first ones I let harden for about 2 weeks, second set were only a few days)
The rear rim was allowed to harden for about a month though, paint didn't get damaged when fitting tyre (which was pretty surprising as Avon race tyres are really tight to fit)
