Your gauge is water level. At low tide it measures 14" to the silt. You sit there. High tide comes in. No waves, your gauge reads 18". I'm sure you have a smart ass answer why I'm wrong.

You bet. The gauge is connected to the boat. Therefore it will read the same 14" unless a bird took a big shit on your boat. Sorry.... Had to do it.

You must have a V-hull sitting on the ground. My flat bottom would be in 18" of water.

The bible aka "manual will say many things"... You ask questions. Love that! And your learning to wrap your head around things. I'm proud of ya. You have progressed so much. And these guys on here have so much knowledge, and continue to share.

Wait, sentimental side to cafe Mike? You are a delight, sir. Thanks for hanging in there.

I'm always impressed by the knowledge base on here. My only regret in this whole experience is not starting when I was younger. I mean I'm young, but you know what I mean.

I remember when Texas star asked CrazyPJ how they learned everything they know without modern technology and equipment like we have now. His answer was essentially that they had to not be afraid to fail. That's the key I've learned here. I'm still timid, mainly because I have too much cash wrapped up in this freaking thing, and I may never get to you alls level, but it's the journey.

That's the funny thing about it. I look up to you. We are blessed in the fact that we can take this little device out of our pockets and find out anything ( given 9-10 answers follow suit) I was just saying (I'm 38) I remember going to the grocery store to buy a new encyclopedia ,and getting a free dish plate was my fill of knowing. Unless you go to the public library, and have to pay for a copy of a book they could not lend. But these kids ( before your time) are giving everything. No more 1st place.... Really. They took dodge ball away..... That's when you either settle scores, or feel bad for breaking that pretty girls nose. I don't have kids, but if I did I would be follow suit of Texas star. Because he is a star.

Don't get me started on the removal of F's, no trophies for placing, everyone "making the team." Our society is so wonderful in so many ways, but in so many more ways perishing. I can't stand to see kids with iPads at the dinner table. My fiancée and I want to scream. It's amazing how parents think kids will just learn the things they need to know in their own. Funny thing is, they will learn. They will learn how to adapt to this crappy society that has no perception of reality. You do bad at work, you get fired. You wreck the car, you pay for it. That's what I was taught. And my parents would have been doing me an injustice by not beating my rear when I did wrong. But now it's positive reinforcement, positive reinforcement.

Where were we?

Here's where I'm at, trying to choose between these two sets of Red Wings...or to buy the 13" set of Progressives from DCC:

http://www.dimecitycycles.com/13-inch-progressive-suspension-12-series-eye-to-clevis-gas-charged-rear-motorcycle-shock-absorbers.html

Does that first set look dirty? I don't want to pay $140 for some dirty rusty shocks. But if you guys think they'll clean up and are worth it, the sale ends in 20 minutes so lemme know lol.

Well I won't be getting the set at the first link that I posted. I sent the guy a questions about whether they were indeed used because you could see where the spring was compressed at some point because there is a witness line on the plunger rod. He sent me the following note back:

"Hi, I have sold hundreds of NOS pairs of shocks on Ebay, all with positive feedback. I have Hundreds more. They are brand new in the original boxes. For you to suggest otherwise, with a feedback of 17 no less, is insulting. You have just made the banned bidder list for my Ebay account. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
THANKS!!!"

Haha oh well, you win some, you make others mad. Whatever. And also, the "feedback" of 17 to me doesn't mean jack. All that means is that I have 17 people who have provided feedback on my account...but the percentage is 100% positive. Pretty bad point to make IMO.

Looks like I won't get the cheaper set.

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Back end is back apart. I figured doing so would force me to buy the new shocks I need. I took a measurement and it looks like 13" will be perfect. I was really getting tired of that stupid unnecessary chain slider. Also, the swingarm is one of the only things I didn't powder coat and I'm going to do that while it's off.

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

I also discovered that the swingarm bushings on the CL200 are metal and not plastic! Maybe I can salvage those.

what are the differences between the swing arms?

As far as I can tell, there is no difference at all with the exception of the bushings being metal and not plastic.

Ooook so probably one of the best updates I've had in a while! I couldn't bring myself to drop $170 on 40 year old shocks (red wings with shipping) and I also couldn't let myself spend $300 for progressives knowing the riding I will be doing.

So I called up Dave Quinn who was one of the nicest people you will ever talk to. He set me up with a set of Black body and chrome spring Hagons that will suit me perfectly.

Here's the specs:

335 mm shock body - medium damping
12 kilo spring (progressively wound)
14mm top bushing
10 mm lower clevis bolt

So excited to get this thing back on the road!! without my chain rubbing of course. The shocks are about .2 inches longer than I need, but he recommends a 1" sag when I sit on the bike so ride height will be a tad taller than stock.

Are you rubbing on the top side of swing arm ,or bottom?

Was on the top. Thought about a bigger rear sprocket, plus with longer shock length you need to run more slack, and that was hurting me even worse. Shocks I had were 14.5", stance looked great but I lost performance. Hagons will bring me back to where I need to be.
