"Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

When I take the rotor off, and try to torque it back when I put it back on, it's going to be out of time right? Unless I am accurate in how I put it back on? Guess I can make a mark somewhere to match it back up.

How might I keep the rotor from spinning while I try to get that nut off? Without an impact wrench mind you

Re: "Patina" The 1973 CB175 Cafe Racer

Ah crap. Looks like unless the engine is in the bike where I could apply the rear brake, impact gun it is.

if you have the clutch cover off a rag in the primary gear teeth or just wind up and smack the wrench hard with a rubber mallet it is only a 8mm thrd should pop lose thisaway

I'd use a FBH instead of a wimpy mallet but be careful what you hit. Only the wrench please - not fingers or cases.

I was looking at those electric ones Murray! (Meanwhile saving up for a compressor among other things :) )

Thanks for offering that!

zeke said to me...I am not holding that...just a little video on how NOT to do things...we used a tractor, cheater bar and strap to get the flywheel bolt loose on my wife's minivan...lol. We used a cheater bar, crow bar in the stator with the cover off to get that little bolt loose on the 175 out of the bike. Zeke said to me..."one day dad I am going to have the right tools." My buddy Benjamin always takes Macgyver one step further by saying "we can make a tool for that"

Haha I think I saw the tractor video!

Tex,
Please don't repeat that. It is so easy to miss and remove body parts. Nothing is worth that. I know you know that, I'm just saying'....

I'm thinking of creative ways to get me more clearance away from that freaking C-rail downpillar on my frame so I can use a velocity stack and filter more easily. What do you guys think about this? I modeled up my carb insulator flange (the plastic one) that goes between the carb adapter and the head and angled it. Basically just made it an inclined plane that would then angle my carb outward more. Would this impact performance at all? The inlet is still straight through so there is no blockage of the flow, no change at all.

That will work great. I made some spacers out of phenolic material which gave me a bit more length for my PE24's.
No problems so far.

that is a great method and no it won't hurt perf as long as it is still a decent smooth transition through hole
some alighning warshers would be a right tits thing fer the app as well

Just realized that I'll have to drill some angled holes through the engine side of the carb standoff adapter too.

ACM, why did you choose that material? (Just curious)

XB, is that kind of like a "registration" washer ... male and female?
