Penelope, a 1971 CB450K4

onepremiere

I'm Embarrassed.
Well, here we go.

Its a beat up 1971 CB450K4 that really should be used as a parts bike because it is a rolling chassis. But I've decided to dive into this money pit.

Engine is locked up. I've got Marvel Mystery Oil in the Crank and Heads trying to free some stuff up before Herm at Dime City Cycles dives into this 450.

Its missing Starter Chain, Starter Sprockets, Starter Clutch, Stator Rotor, Ignition Coils, Front Brake Caliper, and a Fuel Tank. So yeah, this is my project.

Just about everything else needs some kind of TLC.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. A project.

My plans are for a low lean cafe. Vintage look, with modern influences. Lots of contrast, and attention to details. (I am anal)

Day 1 - July 1, 2010

The condition I got it in. The photos hide the rust, leaves, grease and other garbage that came with this thing.

Your in good hands with herm! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with here, I love the Honda 4's! Good luck!

When new people come by my house, they go "what are you doing with this POS." I point to the door and tell them to leave.

Its going to be a goodtime... I am glad to hear good things about Herm, so far he has put me at ease about this engine. I am building the crate this weekend to ship this thing.

My impatience will drain my wallet...

While the engine is away, time to cut the and paint the frame.

Great bike to build man. They are so pretty. And ya, Herm knows his shit. Keep the updates comin'.

Looks pretty clean, but that's really not saying much.

Are you sure that it's the pistons seized in the cylinders? Diesel450 had an XS that he thought was seized, but it turned out to be something else.

His is in the "Trackers" section if you wanna check it out.

the top end looks clean; close to new... no scoring or anything.

doesnt tell you about bottom end though; and if you have a stuck piston or a stuck engine, to do it right you have to really open it up.

I tried kicking it a few times, then tried bumping it. Nothing.

Just curious. It probably is the pistons, but didn't know if checked anything else.

Besides, it's good to get in there and check everything out anyway!

Top of the piston looks ugly. Real ugly.

Crankcase looks clean... So hopefully is just head work....

That much closer to heading off for paint polish and a fresh rebuild.

(I'd do it all myself is I had any clue about tolerances and proper engine specs. So ill leave this one to the pros. ) Unless however some one in So Cal knows these engines. :) Save some $$$
