Been Around the Block
SO... went to my first track day a couple of weekends ago, got five runs in, the last 3 in the rain but all in all a great day. Scared the crap outta myself twice but managed to keep the shiney bits from touching down. Had 5 riders get a bit over confident Saturday but all came back for their next round with only injuries to their pride. Rode my 75 650 for one session just to see if I had my jetting sorted and then rode 'the track bike' for the other 4. Track bike is a stripped down 1979 xs 650. My dad brought and rode his 85 650 also. Anyways some pictures of our bikes and of some of the cooler vintage iron rolling around..

Next track day is in september and i think i'm going to find some sort of organization to join to do this a little more regularly.. Have another barn fresh 650 sitting in the garage begging for a 1/2 fairing and some $$ spent on fancy engine pieces !!

Cool stuff here man! Glad to see you got to get out there with your pop, too. Glad you had a good time, it looks really fun!

If this durned message gets posted twice, blame my computer.
Anyway, saw you at the track day and it looked like you were having a lot of fun in spite of the weather - good to see some DTT'ers gettin' 'ere done out there!
The XS650 makes a great track and vintage race bike and there is so much stuff out there for them, it makes it hard sometimes to pick.
You lucky guy, having another XS to modify.
Your comments re: half fairings is on the mark - gets you out of the wind but doesn't get the engine heat thrown back at you like a full fairing. Mick Vikalic has one of my Dresda half fairings on his XS650 / Drixton replica, Joe Carriere has one of my Norton Manx half fairings on his SR500 that was featured in Feb Cycle Canada and Roger McHardy has a Ken King Replica fairing on his very rapid Triumph twin. I've also put a number of different solo seats on XS's, though the Norton Proddy Racer seat (like the red solo seat in one of your photos) seems to be very popular.
Cool replica stuff, all made in Canada (I'm located in Georgetown, ON), by "yours truly".
I'm a lot more low key than I used to be, but still build fiberglass to order.
If you're interested in a parts list, or just want to shoot the sh1t about old bikes, drop me an email sometime at pacomotorstuff@cogeco.ca.
Have fun with your XS's.
