Pitting in carb fuel bowl - CB360

Hey All,

I've been a lurker over here for a while as this site has been amazing helping me make my 75' Honda 360T road worth. I have a "would you run em'?" type question:

One of the carbs (Keihin 745B) seems to have quite a bit of erosion/pitting throughout the fuel bowl. Portions of the pillar that hold the float pin are severely pitted (holes still round) and it looks like the tops of some of the holes for the jets are also fairly bad. All of the jets seem to screw into the holes okay, so I don't think the threads are compromised. That being said I haven't been able to get the pilot jet out. I'm wondering if you all think this carb is too sketchy to run. All thoughts/criticism welcome. I'm in this to learn.

P.S. those shaving looking things are hunks of chop stick, not brass...

Not so gnarly carb

Looks fine to me. Just give 'em a good clean and as long as they're not leaking you're probably OK.

Thanks Sonreir.

I am a little concerned about all of this white substance. This is after being soaked in pine sol, cleaned rigorously with a nylon brush and then rinsed. The other carb does not have this. It seems to have gotten more pronounced after the cleaning.

The white residue is a reaction that is common when using Pine-Sol. Try using some actual carb cleaner and a brush. Once fuel is in the carb, I don't really think it will be an issue.

Yep, that white residue is oxalic acid which is a crystalline solid produced from the chemical reaction that makes Pine Sol work so well. Pine Sol has glycolic acid which converts to oxalic acid during the reaction.

Right on. It certainly got worse after the bath in Pine Sol. If my memory is right, some of the white was there before the bath. Someone on another forum mentioned that it could have been from water sitting in the fuel bowl. Regardless, I'll clean it up, run it and see how it goes.
