Please help me identify my vintage caferacer (i think) - 56k beware

Hey Steve, just a thought, but if you find out what that front end is off of, you could get a frame from the same bike with a title. Than take it to a machine shop/fabricator and have the neck with the vin swapped onto your frame. May be a little pricey, but you would have a legal bike that you can ride. I would hate to see you put your time and money into a bike that the man will just take away the first time ya try and run it on the street.

Thanks for the advice guys, I like the idea of the neck swap, that should be easy(er) to find/fabricate. ;D

I get alot of my stuff from bike bandit but didn't think they'd sell vintage parts etc. I guess any grips/pegs will do, but I might need some more period correct stuff. Thanks for the list im going to check some of those out but first im going to take a peek at VonYinzer's build.

Afterthought... wouldn't neck swapping be just as "frowned upon". heh

why dont you just find out what kind of bike it is and just source another frame and swap all the goodies over? seems like thatd be the easiest thing to do, that or just make it a track only bike.

man what a find!!! Thats a real piece of history...any idea of who may have owned it?

i don't have a suggestion but that photo of the yamaha looks like it might be on the right path. did you ask your mom why it was there. great find hopefully you can find out what it is.

good luck

I can get you original Italian or Japanese made grips from the 60s and 70s all day long, dirt cheap. The grip cement bottles are glass, look like WW2 field medic's morphine ampules. Actually worth more than the grips. Just need to know the length needed and the bar/throttle sleeve dimensions in millimeters. Mostly older Honda spec, some Yamaha and Ducati type. Peg rubbers are no problem either, Triumph, BSA, Honda, generic...

Hey, there's an idea, that same shop has a few old Ducati single cylinder engines... with papers. At least here, if the engine has clean papers the state can inspect the rig and issue a state v.i.n. for the chassis.

If you want to make a long day of it you may find it worthwhile to drive down and go through the engine trailer. Not open Sunday or Monday during the winter. Let me know, can meet you there on a Saturday.
